A CFCL First?

For the first time in CFCL history, we may have a team not meet the minimum IP requirement of 1000.  And not only that … we may make it a CFCL Double Play (play…play…play…) and have two teams not top the 1000 IP mark.

As of Sept. 15, Steve’s Stones have compiled just 946 IP.  And doing them 36 better, the Lambchops sit way back at 910.  Based on their recent weekly averages, the Stones have a decent shot at eeking over 1000 IP during the next two weeks.  It will be a real stretch for the Chops to pick up 90 IP before the season winds down.

Any team that compiles fewer than 1000 IP will receive 0 points in the three ratio categories (ERA, WHIP, K:BB).  They will maintain their ranking in those categories, so the teams under the IP-challenged teams will not get extra points because of this – those teams will still be ranked and receive the same number of points that they would have otherwise.

You’d think that this scenario suddenly gives the Rebels a shot at making it out of the cellar.  Hold your horses, though.  Even if the Lambchops pull zeroes in the ratio categories, they’re so low in the rankings there, that they’d only end up losing about 10 points, which would still put them a handful of points ahead of the Rebels overall.

In 2007, the teams that finished in 5^th-12^th place in 2006 will receive a budget of up to .06 to use toward reacquiring players who had played out their option with the team (B-contract players). The exact amount each team receives will be based on how far behind the 5^th place team they are at the end of the year, in terms of a percentage of the 5^th place team's point total.
