Another Baseball Jinx?

Living in Chicago, many of us as Cub fans, we're well aware of the supposed jinx that hangs over the Northside franchise.  And of course everyone's familiar with the Curse of the Bambino.  In hunting around for a Memorial Day quote for today's report I stumbled across the tale of another jinxed franchise.

The text in the quote comes from a plaque that was erected in the Polo Grounds on Memorial Day, 1921 in honor of a former Giant player who had been killed in action during World War I.  The plaque disappeared after the Giants left the stadium in 1957 and has never been recovered.

Since then the Giants have been beset by all manner of odd and unfortunate occurrences (according to the story), including the World Series earthquake.

In 2007, the teams that finished in 5th-12th place in 2006 will receive a budget of up to .06 to use toward reacquiring players who had played out their option with the team (B-contract players). The exact amount each team receives will be based on how far behind the 5th place team they are at the end of the year, in terms of a percentage of the 5th place team's point total.
