CFCL rosters have been adding a little beef lately, with some
teams adding an extra player to their active rosters, a sure sign that we’re
entering the final stretch.Wow,
it’s hard to believe September is here already – this season has just flown
by – but it’s true, there are only about 30 games left in the season.
Not only does that mean that the Copperfields are quickly
running out of time to catch the season-dominating Reservoir Dogs, but there are
a number of other things for everyone to start thinking about:
Awards Banquet – we need to start
thinking about a date and location for this year’s banquet.Last year’s location, Home Run Inn Pizza in Addison, seemed to work
well (once Steve showed up – he claimed he couldn’t find the place and had
to stop for directions, but the theory is that the 2004 Champ was sitting in the
parking lot waiting to make a Grand Entrance).Anyway, the best approach is usually to find a date that works best for
the largest number of owners and then select a location by trying to find
something central to all the owners who can make that date.If you already know of weekend dates in October when you won’t be
available, let me know.
Awards Voting – I’ll be putting
an awards ballot together in the next few weeks, but it’s not too early to
start giving it some thought. As in
past years, I'll select nominees for each of the categories (which are described
in the Awards section of the website) and make suggestions for the write-in
categories (MVP, Cy Young, etc.).My
method of selecting nominees isn't scientific or terribly thorough, and in the
past I've inadvertently left off some worthy candidates. If you'd like to suggest nominees from your team, or actively lobby for
votes in the Forum, I'd more than welcome it.Matt G:will there be one of
your marathon Awards Handicapping posts this year to get the awards juices
flowing?
Opinion Survey – I will also
probably be preparing the usual end-of-season opinion survey.I say “probably” because now that the category changes from a few
years ago have received not only acceptance, but pretty much universal acclaim
within the CFCL, there may not be a whole lot to take opinions about (I guess we
could resurrect the “Who
Does Steve Look Like?” thread from the Forum – sorry, Steve, don’t
mean to be picking on you this week, it’s just working out that way).If anyone has suggestions for survey questions – especially if you’ve
got new rule changes/suggestions – send ‘em on.
Winter Waivers– This is just a reminder that we DON’T have to worry about
Winter Waivers just yet.Recall
that we decided to push the whole process back until January so we’d have time
to digest and react to off-season player movement before making cuts.
2006–
finally, as we ask at the end of every season, we’d like confirmation as to
whether you plan to be back for next season. If you’re not planning on returning, please let us know so we can start
the search for a replacement as soon as possible.
