"We shall miss him in the infield
And we’ll miss him at the bat.
But he’s true to his religion
and I honor him for that."
Edgar Guest, saluting Hank Greenberg’s decision not to play on Yom Kippur, 1934

Winter Waivers

Here’s another reminder that 23-man protected lists will be due in sometime shortly after the end of the season. Remember, you can’t protect anyone who’s currently on a B contract (including free agents acquired during September) – these players will be automatically released after the season’s final day.

Last Call for Nominees

I’m in the processes of making my last pass through the rosters and transaction logs looking for nominees for awards such as Steal of the Year, Nick Esasky, Best Free Agent Acquisition, Best Reserve List Pick, etc. If you have anyone on your team you’d like to appear in the nominee list, now’s the time to let me know.

Survey Content

I’m also hoping to find some time to start compiling the end-of-season opinion survey. The survey is a good way to put out some initial feelers about rule/policy changes. If you’ve got anything you’d like to toss out there, send them on and I’ll be sure to include them.

Topper Watch

In 2005, the teams that finished in 5th-12th place in 2004 will receive a budget of up to .06 to use toward reacquiring players who had played out their option with the team (B-contract players). The exact amount each team receives will be based on how far behind the 5th place team they are at the end of the year, in terms of a percentage of the 5th place team's point total.

Based on the standings through last Thursday, here are the teams that would receive Topper Budgets for use in the 2005 Draft and the amount each team would receive:
