Father's Day
Happy Father's Day to all you dads and would-be dads!
As always, we hope the kids treat you well and your favorite team wins on your
special day (unless you're an Oakland fan).
Father's Day and this week's quote remind me that "Field
of Dreams" (which was once voted the best baseball movie of all-time in a CFCL
poll) has been released in a special 15th Anniversary 2-DVD set. Along
with newly mastered audio and video, the discs supposedly come packed with
extras. If you don't already own the film in it's earlier DVD version
(which also had some nice extras), there are few better ways spend
$15-$20.
Transaction Request
Back in my CFCL hey-day (before kids and a job that keeps me
pretty busy), I was usually aware of any roster movement in the NL (disabled
list, promotions, demotions, etc.). Now,
though, I'm lucky if I know what's going on with my team half the time.
I think the stat service has made us a little lazy from that perspective.
Anyway, these days I can't keep track of MLB transactions as well as I
used to, which creates a little extra work for me when teams submit mid-week
roster moves.
As a small request, when you e-mail a mid-week transaction it
would be very helpful it you mentioned the MLB roster move that makes your
transaction possible. For example,
"Polanco came off the DL, so I'll activate him and reserve Grabowski."
In most cases, this will eliminate me having to look up each player
involved in your transaction in order to validate it.
It's not a huge deal, but it could save me some time and
trouble when doing transactions. Thanks!
TQS Update
It looks like TQS has corrected the errors we identified.
I actually addressed the missing Bautista/Gryboski issue myself and just
added them to the Splinters and DoorMatts in a retroactive transaction effective
Opening Day. The missing IP for
Daigle, Aardsma, and Wuertz no longer seem to be missing.
I haven't heard anything from TQS as to why these things
happened to begin with, and since that's an unknown right now (as far as we're
concerned), I guess we ought to be on the lookout for future problems of the
same sort.
Disappearing players should be fairly easy to notice as long
as their significant contributors – Bautista's missing stats cause a rather
large movement in the standings. However,
it wasn't until I started digging that I noticed Gryboski was also MIA.
Likewise, missing stats for players who aren't even active can be hard to
spot.
I'd suggest that each Saturday, after the weekly transactions
have been entered, you take a close look at your roster at TQS and make sure
that 1) all your players are there, and 2) the stats for anyone you reserved
that week look reasonable. Let me
know if you spot any potential problems.
Topper Watch
In 2005, the teams that finished in 5th-12th
place in 2004 will receive a budget of up to .06 to use toward reacquiring
players who had played out their option with the team (B-contract players). The
exact amount each team receives will be based on how far behind the 5th
place team they are at the end of the year, in terms of a percentage of the 5th
place team's point total.
Based on the standings through last Thursday, here are the
teams that would receive Topper Budgets for use in the 2005 Draft and the amount
each team would receive:
