What a Race! Or perhaps that should be: “What? A Race?” I’m sure no one thought a month or two ago that the race for the 2003 CFCL Championship would be as close as it’s become (certainly the Hard Hats didn’t when they traded the Lambchops two key components of their pitching staff). There was one day this week when the Schmidt-less Hard Hats had pulled within half a point of the injury riddled Lambchops. There’s room for both teams to easily gain and lose multiple points – the Hats and Chops are slugging it out head-to-head in the RBI, SB, and HoSv categories – so this one could go right down to the final week. Likewise, Tenacious B and the Reservoir Dogs have been flip-flopping between 3rd and 4th for quite a while, the Meisters and Ruffins are fighting it out for 5th place and the #1 Rotation Draft pick next year, and the remaining half of the league could literally finish in almost any order. We’ll do the traditional microscopic look at the races and categories in another couple weeks. Stay tuned, folks – everybody’s got something to play for. 2003 Opinion Survey I hope to have the end-of-season opinion survey ready to go sometime next week. Keep an eye on your e-mail for notification that it’s been posted. Awards Banquet Based on the feedback I’ve received from the people who bothered to give it, it looks like the banquet is a “Go” for Sunday October 19 following the screening of “Trading the Gator” at the Chicago Historical Society. No one who has responded is opposed to this date/time/location, though a couple people did say they weren’t sure yet if they’d be able to make it. One potential monkey wrench is the World Series. October 19 would be Game 2 of the series, and it’s looking slightly possible that one or both Chicago teams may be playing a game that day. Rich and I talked about this, and given the rarity of such an event, we wouldn’t want to distract from it by trying to schedule the banquet around it. We decided that we would tentatively plan the banquet for the late afternoon/evening of October 19, but we would postpone it if either the Cubs or White Sox make it to the Fall Classic. I’ll include a section in the opinion survey where you can provide your availability for back-up dates. This Week's Featured League I think we’ve reached the end of the line as far as featured league web pages go. I’ve spent some time looking, but haven’t found any other league pages that are updated enough or otherwise worthy of the honor. I guess that says a lot about the pages that we did honor. I’ll leave the list up for one more week so you can revisit them if you’d like to.
Record Book Week Ending 9/12: No new records were set this week.
