Panty Hose Last week’s quote from Dave Parker, "September is panty hose month; no nonsense," certainly lives on this week. An incredible number of transactions for a week in September, with even teams far out of contention tinkering with their roster to jockey for position. With three weeks or so to go, there are some very close races, with the Hard Hats creeping closer to the Lambchops and the incredible 4-teams-separated-by-2-points scramble for 7th place. End of Season Business As the 2003 season’s days dwindle down to a precious few, it’s time to start preparing for some of the things that happen once the season is over. This includes: Awards Banquet – so far, no one has said they can’t or won’t attend the banquet if we hold it in the city following the documentary screening on October 19. On the other hand, I’ve only heard from 5 people, which isn’t an overwhelming response. If making it into the city or holding the banquet on October 19 will be a problem for anyone, let me know – otherwise it look like that’s the date and location we’ll target. I guess another consideration could be the post-season. October 19 would be Game 2 of the World Series – if the Cubs or Sox of – good god! – BOTH teams make it all the way, would that affect your desire to attend the banquet? Awards Voting –I’ll be putting an awards ballot together in the next few weeks, but it’s not too early to start giving it some thought – especially for the write-in categories (MVP, Cy Young, etc.). Last year, Matt G. posted his thoughts about the various awards on the Message Board, which generated a little pre-voting discussion of the candidate. I don’t know if Matt is planning something similar this year, but if anyone else would like to take a stab or if anyone wants to lobby in favor of certain players, feel free. Opinion Survey –I’ll also be preparing the traditional end-of-season opinion survey. I’m sure I’ll be asking for feedback about the new scoring categories and the weekly transaction deadline, but if anyone has any other items you want me to touch on, let me know. Winter Waivers –sometime shortly after the season ends, all CFCL rosters must be reduced to 23 players (including both major league and minor league players). I’ll be announcing the deadline for submitting cuts soon, but in the meantime it wouldn’t hurt to start thinking about which 23 players you want to keep. Remember – players on B contracts are automatically released the day after the season ends. 2004 – finally, as we ask at the end of every season, we’d like confirmation as to whether you plan to be back for next season. If you’re not planning on returning, please let us know so we can start the search for a replacement as soon as possible. This Week's Featured League Each week (or close to it) I feature the web page of a fantasy baseball league that I’ve surfed across. Note that this is NOT intended to be a "review" of each site, nor is it intended to be a competition. It’s simply a way of exploring the fantasy baseball community beyond the CFCL and a way of recognizing those leagues with a presence on the Internet. There’s no featured page this week, and unless I can find a league website that’s worthy, we may be done for the year. Watch this space…
