Each week (or close to it) I feature the web page of a fantasy baseball league that I’ve surfed across. Note that this is NOT intended to be a "review" of each site, nor is it intended to be a competition. It’s simply a way of exploring the fantasy baseball community beyond the CFCL and a way of recognizing those leagues with a presence on the Internet.

This week’s featured web page belongs to the Big Daddy Baseball League (BDBL):

Last time, we featured the page of a rotisserie league that was named after a former major leaguer.  The Big Daddy Baseball League is named in tribute to one of my all-time favorite players, Rick Reuschel.

The BDBL is a 24-team Diamond-Mind Baseball simulation league that’s been around since 1999.

The web site for the league is outstanding.  The site starts off with a very entertaining animation.  Usually I don’t like this type of thing, but this one is very well-done.  It does take a while to load on a dial-up connection, and the second time I tried to visit the site the animation wouldn’t load at all (or took longer than I was willing to wait), so I clicked the “Skip Animation” link.

The main page that follows the animation is chock full of outstanding features, all with clean and creative presentations.  As with some of the earlier featured sites, rather than try to list/describe everything here, it would probably be best to just encourage you to check it out and explore.  Some highlights you’ll want to make sure to hit, though:

The Teams section (selected from the menu bar near the top of the main page), which features links to individual pages for each team.  Each page includes a short profile of the owner (often including a picture), franchise history, and other info about team.  These pages are all run by the BDBL, but several teams also have links to their own team pages, which are very well-done as well.

There’s a nice History section, with various features for each year.

As with any good league site, there's a set of discussion Forums that seems to get a lot of action - nearly 600 posts in the last couple weeks.

This is a league that clearly has a lot of fun - be sure to read the recaps of the BDBL Weekends, listed in the Headlines section near the bottom of the page.  This is all the more impressive when you consider that this is a league that's run over the Internet, between guys who appear to have come to the league as strangers.  To create a virtual community like this is no small feat, and based on what I've seen, a lot of the credit for that can be given to the website.  Like many of the other pages we've featured, it clearly take a ton of time and effort to keep running, and just as clearly is a labor of love.
