Household Names? The CFCL is in definite danger of over-exposure. First, the league was featured in a major documentary film, and now we've been profiled in the Wednesday Journal, Oak Park's weekly newspaper. Rich, Dave Holian, and I, all graduates of Oak Park-River Forest High School, were interviewed for the piece, as was "Trading the Gator" producer Brad Morris. The article is peppered with minor inaccuracies, and I'm convinced I didn't say some of the things attributed to me (at least, not in those words), but overall it's a very nice feature. I've scanned the article, and you can read it by clicking on the title below: Fantasy league of their own from Oak Park's Wednesday Journal Trade Deadline The CFCL trade deadline is Noon on Friday August 1. This is 21 hours after the MLB interleague trade deadline (3:00 PM Central on Thursday August 31). All CFCL trades must be reported, along with all corresponding moves, by Noon next Friday. The "all corresponding moves" part means that if you make trades on Friday you must: 1) be under the salary cap, 2) have 23 active players that fit the position requirements, and 3) have no more than 17 players on your Reserve List. Free Agent Bidding Remember that in order to place a free agent bid on a player, he must appear on the TQS Free Agent list. An announcement on Friday morning that a team will call a player up later in the day isn’t enough to make him eligible for bidding that day. Interleague Free Agents Speaking of free agent bidding, the MLB trade deadline is usually a hectic yet fun time in terms of free agent acquisitions. Since IFAB (Interleague Free Agent Bidding) Day falls on our regular Friday transaction day this year, things will be somewhat simpler than in the past. All players who come to the NL in trades between now and the MLB trade deadline on Thursday will be eligible for bidding on Friday (assuming they will all make it onto the TQS Free Agent list). If I get the chance, I will publish current salary levels and FAAB balances for all teams on the website on Wednesday or Thursday. If you want to be proactive, check the Excel rosters in the Download Center to make sure your what I have down as your FAAB balance matches what you think it is. Remember, you can hover your cursor over the cell that contains your FAAB balance and a list will display showing all the free agents you’ve acquired during the year and their salaries. This Week's Featured League Each week (or close to it) I feature the web page of a fantasy baseball league that I’ve surfed across. Note that this is NOT intended to be a "review" of each site, nor is it intended to be a competition. It’s simply a way of exploring the fantasy baseball community beyond the CFCL and a way of recognizing those leagues with a presence on the Internet. This week’s Featured League Web page belongs to the Gammonsonian Diamonds League: http://www.angelfire.com/ma4/gmds/ The GMDS is a 14-team mixed 5x5 league that had its beginnings as a league run on ESPN in 1998. As is probably obvious, the league is named for ESPN’s Peter Gammons. The owners in the league seem to have a great camaraderie, and this really comes across on the page – particularly in the owner profiles and articles. Highlights of the page include:
