Latest CFCL Bulletin and Roster Changes

"Genteel in its origins, proletarian in its development, egalitarian in its demands and appeal, effortless in its adaptation to nature, raucous, hard-nosed, and glamorous as a profession, expanding with the country like fingers unfolding from a fist, image of a lost past, ever-green reminder of America’s best promises, baseball fits America." - Bart Giamatti

Last Call - Fantasy Baseball Documentary

So far, I’ve heard that the following owners will be at the documentary premiere:

Kelly (with 5 guests)
Eric (with 1-5 guests)
Jason (sans Jennifer Aniston)
Matt G. (no info on guests)
David M. (at least 3 guests)
Paul (with possible posse)

If you’re not on the list above and are planning on attending, let me know by Wednesday so I can tell Brad how many to plan for.

Salary Cap

The salary cap will be increasing to $3.50 in the next week-and-a-half, but for now keep in mind that it is $3.00. We’ve had three different teams have roster moves nullified because the moves put the team over the $3.00 cap – and one of those was a major trade.

All you contenders will get a bit of cap relief very soon, but if you make any trades or moves in the meantime, be sure to keep an eye on your salaries.

Roster Moves Related to Trades

Trades have been coming fast and furious around here lately, and they’ve seldom been of the 1-for1, 2-for-2 variety, so they usually required some roster shuffling to get positions filled, etc. There have been some questions in terms of what’s allowed and what’s not in these trade-related moves, so here are some key points:

If you trade a hitter for a pitcher, you ARE allowed to activate a hitter from your reserve list to replace the guy you traded away. Likewise, you MUST reserve a pitcher to make room for the guy you acquired (unless you want to put the new pitcher on reserve himself). The same type of thing holds true if you trade a catcher for a shortstop.

You are NOT allowed to make additional moves that aren’t related to the trade. For example, if I trade Carl Pavano for Pat Burrell, I can reserve Troy O’Leary (to make room for Burrell) and activate Steve Trachsel (to replace Pavano). But I can’t also reserve Scott Sullivan and activate Kirk Saarloos – neither one of those guys had anything to do with the trade. Making a trade doesn’t give you the chance to do other roster shuffling.

You are NOT allowed to shuffle your roster around to fit the new guys you acquired under the salary cap. If you acquire three .25 pitchers in a trade and their salaries put you over the current salary cap, you’ll have to put one or two of them on reserve until the next transaction deadline and do your roster shuffling there. This doesn’t mean you can’t reserve a .30 pitcher and put one of the new .25 players in his spot. It means you can’t reserve a .30 outfielder and replace him with a .01 outfielder in order to get your salary cap down – as in the example above, the outfielders weren’t involved in the trade.

If you have questions about any of these points, shoot a note to an Executive Committee member.

This Week's Featured League

Each week (or close to it) I feature the web page of a fantasy baseball league that I’ve surfed across. Note that this is NOT intended to be a "review" of each site, nor is it intended to be a competition. It’s simply a way of exploring the fantasy baseball community beyond the CFCL and a way of recognizing those leagues with a presence on the Internet.

We're going to take a short break from the Featured Pages until I have the time to surf around for some more sites worthy of the honor.
