Fantasy Baseball Documentary World Premiere

I know I sent information to everyone about the premiere screening of the fantasy baseball documentary, which is now called "Trading the Gator". This is a reminder that Brad would like to get a count of the CFCL owners and guest who will be attending so he can reserve spots and prepare tapes, etc. As of now, I’ve heard from Rich and Nick (not attending), Kelly, Eric, and Jason (all attending, Kelly and Eric with guests). Once the rest of you are set with your plans for attending or not, remember to let me know.

Here’s the information about the event:

Trading the Gator
A documentary by Chance Films

ALL-STAR WEEKEND WORLD PREMIERE
FREE SCREENING AT THE CHICAGO CULTURAL CENTER
CASSIDY THEATRE
SUNDAY, JULY 13, at 7pm

Millions of people around the world play fantasy sports online, from baseball to football, auto racing to bass fishing. Trading the Gator is an intimate and entertaining look at one league where intense competition coexists with strong friendships, dreams endure tragedy, and where finding a second baseman with some steals just might allow you to control the uncontrollable.

The film follows a Chicago-area Rotisserie baseball league through their 19th season. Rotisserie baseball is the original fantasy sport, where league members simulate the experience of owning and managing professional sports teams. Dan Okrent, a New York-based writer and editor, invented Rotisserie baseball in 1980, looking for a way to become a more passionate, more involved baseball fan. He had no idea that his hobby would become a national obsession, lucrative industry, and a threat to marriages everywhere.

Professional baseball players and GM’s, as well as Dan Okrent and members of the original Rotisserie league, Jim Cramer of CNBC’s Kudlow & Cramer, Tim Kurkjian of ESPN Baseball Tonight, baseball writer and statistician Bill James, and humorist Dave Barry offer color commentary and analysis of the history and powerful attraction of this phenomenally popular American pastime.

A Moment with the Founding Father

The Dan Okrent quote at the top of this report came from an interview I stumbled across on the Internet. It’s a short, but very good read. You can get the full interview at:

All-Star Gathering

Only Eric expressed any interest in getting together to watch the All-Star Game in a couple weeks. If you think you might want to join us, let me know. Sometime in the week before the game Eric, I, and whomever else has expressed interest, will choose a place.

This Week's Featured League

Each week (or close to it) I feature the web page of a fantasy baseball league that I’ve surfed across. Note that this is NOT intended to be a "review" of each site, nor is it intended to be a competition. It’s simply a way of exploring the fantasy baseball community beyond the CFCL and a way of recognizing those leagues with a presence on the Internet.

We're going to take a short break from the Featured Pages until I have the time to surf around for some more sites worthy of the honor.
