Rule Clarification The Executive Committee would like to clarify one of the new rules that was added this past off-season. The Constitution currently states: "If the player is traded to the American League during the season, the player can be treated like any other player on the team’s roster for the duration of that season." While this rule refers to players who are traded to the AL by their NL teams, it is not the intent of the rule to limit itself to only to players who are traded to the AL. CFCL teams may also retain the rights to players who end up in the AL via a waiver claim, being sold, signing with an AL team as a free agent after being released by their NL team, or any other mechanism. Any player who is on a CFCL active roster or Reserve List and who ends up in the AL qualifies under the new rule. Terrorist Fun Ok, there’s nothing fun about terrorism, and I typically try to steer clear of politics in the weekly report, but this is so damn funny I had to share it. As everyone knows, www.ready.gov, the website of the Department of Homeland Security, provides plans for dealing with all kinds of terrorist actions. The plans and advice on the ready.gov website are accompanied by visual aids - what are supposed to be intuitive and easy-to-understand drawings. Unfortunately, "intuitive and easy-to-understand" can often end up being "ambiguous and vague". Someone out there decided to demonstrate just how ambiguous and vague the pictures are by writing their own captions. Here they are: Warning Note: For you under-agers out there, the language in the some of the captions can get kind of "colorful" from time to time. Dogs on the Move? There’s an unsubstantiated rumor that Jason Grey has left Schaumberg under cover of night and relocated Reservoir Dog headquarters to Arizona. Stay tuned for more details… This Week's Featured League This week’s Featured League Web page belongs to the No Fehr Rotisserie League: http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/Sideline/8850/index.html NF is a 12-team, NL-only, traditional 4x4 rotisserie league that’s been around (under various names) since 1991. The tone of fun is set right away by the league name, and the team names include some very clever and colorful monikers. Any league that once included a team named the Fielding Melishes (1992) is okay in my book. Each team has its own web page, which is maintained by the owner of the team. Perhaps "maintained" is the incorrect word, as not many of them seem to be kept up to date. For example, the Cactus League Peelers list the likes of Mike Lansing, Kirt Manwaring, and Ruffin (possibly Johnny, but probably Bruce) on their active roster. They can be excused, though, because their page also features a very nice graphic. The main page is updated with news and information regularly, though, so the site loses only marginal points on the "Upkeep" scale. And they have a Weblog that seems to get a decent amount of activity, so the site scores well for Sense of Community. The thing that impressed me the most about the NF website is their attention to the history of their league. There are season summaries going back to the very beginning, which is impressive because the league historian didn’t even join the league until it was entering its third year. Other things to check out are the Commissioner’s Notes and Website Index links at the bottom of the page. The Commissioner’s Notes from 2001 include what appear to be Draft Day photos, and the Website Index provides access to many additional documents that aren’t available from the main page
Documentary Screening Psudo-Update I haven’t heard anything from Producer Brad in terms of a definite date, time, and place for our preview screening of the as-yet-unnamed Fantasy Baseball documentary. I do know that based on everyone’s availability he was going to target the night of Saturday June 7 and try to find a location in the suburbs. As anticipated, it was impossible to find a date when everyone was available, but Brad wanted to be sure to select a date when the four owners whose stories they followed most closely were able to make it, and the 7th was it. As soon as I hear something from Brad, I will send out an e-mail with the details. Record Book Week Ending 5/30: Tenacious B broke the Lambchops two-week-old record for Total Bases in a week. Not surprisingly, they also topped the Hard Hats’ mark for Runs.Steve’s Stones shattered the Copperfields record for weekly WHIP (0.78), which they set in 2000, and the Ruffin’s record of 4.43, which they set earlier this year.
