The First AL Player in CFCL History… … is Julio Lugo, currently residing on the Six Packs’ Reserve List. Lugo had been released by the Houston Astros a week or so ago and was just signed by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. As a result of last winter’s rule changes, the Six Packs have the option of keeping Lugo and promoting him to their active roster at any point between now and the end of the season. If the Six Packs don’t release Lugo, they’ll have the option of keeping him next year as well, though he’ll have to stay on their Reserve List unless he comes back to the National League. Lugo was quickly followed into the CFCL record books by Stones’ minor leaguer Christian Guerrero. Guerrero was waived by the Brewers and claimed by Seattle. Documentary Update I sent an e-mail about this last week, but if you haven’t done so yet this is your reminder to e-mail the Documentary Producers and give them your job title. As Brad mentioned in the message I forwarded, he and Nick are still putting the final touches on the film and are starting to think about screening the final product for us. It sounds like they’re actually planning two Premieres – one in the near-term, which will be a low-key kind of thing, and another in mid-summer where they’ll pull out all the stops (at the Chicago Theater with limos, press coverage, and a wild, Hugh Hefner-style post-screening party). Actually, I’m not sure what the difference between the two will be, but they’re bound to be exciting even if it’s sitting in front of the television in someone’s basement. Contacting Me Keep in mind that I cannot always access my AOL e-mail from the office. If you have something that needs an immediate answer, AOL may not be the way to go. I’d suggest sending e-mails to both AOL and my work address, and of course you can always call me (630-773-5376) – remember that telephone thing we all used to use before we learned to conduct our lives via mouse and keyboard? Transaction Deadline Just a friendly reminder that the Friday transaction deadline is 4:00 PM Central time. Today I had no fewer than three transaction e-mails come in after the deadline. The first was just a couple minutes late, the next was sent at 4:20, and the last was nearly 30 minutes late. Please try to make sure you get your moves in on time. If I do get the chance to get a head start on the report right at 4:00, it can be a hassle to go back and resort bids, waiver claims, etc. Typically, I won’t accept any bids after the 4:00 deadline because it’s not fair to the owners who did get their moves in on time. Record Book Week Ending 5/16: The Lambchops topped the Hard Hats' month-old record for Total Bases in a week by five, while the Hard Hats beat their own weekly record for Runs in week by six. Meanwhile, this week it was the Meisters to tied the weekly record in Holds+Saves.
