Century Mark II

One day last week (Wednesday, I think), the Hard Hats joined Tenacious B as the only teams in CFCL history to achieve a triple-digit score in total points. It’s only a matter of time before someone makes a big splash by ending a reporting period with 100+ points.

Suspensions

Last week, I wrote that the Executive Committee was discussing how to handle mid-week transactions as they relate to suspended players. In the end, they decided on the approach I described earlier: a suspended player CAN be reserved in a mid-week transaction, but the move cannot be made until the player actually begins serving his suspension. That means that the announcement that a player has been suspended is not enough to qualify for a mid-week move – the player cannot be reserved until he actually starts missing games.

I had invited anyone who had thoughts or opinions on the subject to join in the EC discussion. Professor Holian took us up on that offer and, as usual, brought an interesting perspective. His take was that since MLB teams are not allowed to replace suspended players on their active rosters, CFCL teams shouldn’t be able to either. This seems to make a lot of sense, and as it turns out, this is the approach the Rotisserie League takes (they allow exceptions for suspensions related to substance abuse). However, since we began the season allowing suspended players to be reserved, we can’t change that mid-stream. We’ll finish out the season under the existing rules and the EC will discuss possible changes during the off-season. As always, if you have thoughts on this topic, feel free to share them.
