Draft

CFCL Goes Hollywood
So far, the Producers have given me two tapes of "raw" footage from Draft Day 2002. The tapes cover the middle of the auction - hour #4 through hour #6 or so. This is typically the period when the Draft lulls a bit, so slim pickings in terms of audio highlights.
The beginning of the Draft is typically where most of the audio clips come from, so once I get copies of those tapes from the Producers, I'm sure I'll be adding more audio. In the meantime, here's a sneak peek at what might appear when the documentary premieres.
The following are pictures snagged from the Draft Day footage provided by the documentary producers. I was working from "raw" footage, so these exact shots may not end up in the final cut of the film.
Many thanks to Nick, Brad, Sarah, and Casey of Chance Films for permission to use the pictures and audio from their film.

Kelly Barone (Six Packs) |
Own It Now on DVD
The bidding on Hideo Nomo had narrowed down to Kelly Barone (Six Packs) and Bruce Ellman (Tenacious B), and Kelly found himself at that point in the Draft where he had to decide whether to stay the course with his original strategy, or make an adjustment. Kelly announced to all present that he was "at a crossroads" and Bruce wondered whether he was referring to the Ralph Macchio film called "Crossroads" or the one by the same name starring Britney Spears. He then went on to reveal intimate details about Kelly's home viewing habits.

Unexpected Results
One of the interesting things about the Draft Day footage is the interviews with CFCL owners during breaks in the Draft. The provide a rare glimpse into what owners think of their draft as it's happening. During one such interview, Producer Brad asked Eric Lamb (Lambchops) how he thought things were going. Steve Olson (Steve's Stone) chimed in with a comment on his own results so far.

Note Paul's secret weapon in the foreground. The distraction produced by Paul's lunch scraps was deemed the "rotting chicken carcass effect" by Bruce. |
Meister Action Figure with Interchangeable Headgear
During that same break, Producer Brad said he noticed Paul Zeledon (Da Paul Meisters) had changed hats mid-draft. Paul responded with his well-planned approach toward Draft Day headware.
Draft Day Delirium
Much later in the Draft, Paul reviewed the current state of his roster for the Producers. Paul was well into the recap before he had something of a revelation.

Jason Grey (Reservoir Dogs) |
Watching Grass Grow
2002 was CFCL Rookie Jason Grey's (Reservoir Dogs) first experience with the marathon known as CFCL Draft Day. Used to leagues like Tout Wars, which auction 12 full teams from scratch in 4 hours, Jason was caught off-guard by the much more leisurely pace of the CFCL auction. When asked by Producer Sarah, Jason didn't hold anything back in expressing his thoughts about the pace of CFCL Draft Day.
Draft Day Delirium
Late in the Draft, Paul nominated Colorado Rockie pitcher Mike Hampton for a penny, then sat in silence as every other owner passed. Paul put on a brave face as other owners started making comments about how spending a penny for Hampton was overpaying. Jason was right there with some consoling words, referring to another Rockie pitcher Paul already owned.
