(I read this in my email today)

Computer virus disguised as offer to see McVeigh execution

An offer to see the execution of Timothy McVeigh on the Internet is
actually a
computer virus. Just hours after the death of the Oklahoma City
bomber Monday,
visitors to at least one Internet chat room came across an offer to
see a video
of the execution. Instead of a video, computer users were downloading
a
malicious program that can allow hackers to take control of another
computer. A
Brigham Young University computer science student says by visiting a
Web site at
the Internet provider Concentric Networks, his computer downloaded
the program
known as SubSeven. An anti-virus manager at computer security firm
McAfee.com
says SubSeven is an old program that's disguised as many things.

Marsha
you can go to any anti virus site and do a search yourself as they all have search features. This group is set up to help people learn the features of Groups, not act as your search tool for virus information. I did not find anything related to Mcveigh Execution, but any virus can be renamed to almost anything. The 'subseven' Trojan virus is a nasty one esp. if it is used to create a back door opening to your computer. The subseven virus and its different forms are fairly old and can be handled by most up to date anti virus programs. I tell my people on my anti virus mail list to be careful when opening any attachment and to be esp. careful when opening anything with a double extension.

hello everyone, we have had some new people join our group in the
last little while. I hope everyone is exploring and playing with the
different things here. Feel free to create a poll or add something to
the calendar (just use the word test somewhere so we dont get
confused)and have some fun.

Since bouncing mail can be; not only a problem for YFounders, have
heard horror stories from group owner friends...So,just how will that
affect clubs?/ I looked at the 'Bouncing' area..note one had quite a
few,and most/all were hard..{understand that part}..but when I
clicked Download at the top..all that showed was the email address?
Should the complete list of bounces and attempts to send be there?/
Thanks...PJ ;o)

hi PJ
nope, only the list of addys that are bouncing are shown as that is what the page is and what you have requested. The page is of bouncing members/addys and therefore the list is of the 'bad' addys

I am the founder of two adult clubs in UK and I have always thought
we were the last to know when anything new was happening. Thanks to
finding this group I have taken the plunge and am in the process of
transferring my members over to groups. It's hard work for me because
I was only introduced to a computer in January and I can still only
type with one finger..lol
It still has been trial and error, but I now have group pic and I am
passing on information to transferred club members about how it all
works...lol A case of the blind leading the blind I'm afraid. I am
now competent at adding files/bookmarks, creating databases and
running polls, I can also invite, work settings and am just coming to
terms with ..activity. You may say to yourselves that it's easy but
to me it's like learning a new language.
Being able to PLAY in this group is a god-send but I am still having
problems loading a customised text and/or description designs, I have
tried and tried but still just get the typed html text...what am I
doing wrong?
Also I've printed out a lot of your info but for some reason the
software/technical review issue 7, is not central, so I lose a lot of
the text , RH, but the others are fine.
MANY MANY THANKS TO YOU ALL, I KNOW WITHOUT THIS GROUP I WOULD HAVE
QUIT BEFORE THE MERGER....Yours with Thanks... Marilyn

Hi Mal!

How about telling me the address of your group so I can have a look at the
code? Some of the problems you might be facing may have to do with issues
that tend to favor MS Internet Explorer over Netscape and the other folks
with browsers that conform to the International HTML Guidelines which the
Microsoft gurus thumbed their noses at. There are also a couple fine
details in Yahoo!'s HTML script editor for the main group front (Home) page,
which I have been hammering at them to at least tell us about such as the
exact character limit (there is one) etc. which may be giving you
difficulties also.

You may find it useful to join our Yahoo! parent club Club Founders' Club
and/or go to our newsletters on our homepage for some of the technical info.
We've been running a regular column on some of the things you can do in HTML
to spice up your group as well as continuing to monitor "the merger show."

Yahoo! Club Founders' Club is located at
http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/clubfoundersclub and our homepage is
http://www.geocities.com/clubfoundersclub. Or, use the links on the front
page of CFC_Experimental.

Sincerely yours,

Hi Sharon!

I don't know if anyone answered you so I'll take a stab at it.

First, what browser are you using? Remember there are distinct differences
in how some commands work in IE as opposed to Netscape and also whether the
Yahoo! HTML safety-script will allow them to work. For instance, your music
plays when I access with Internet Explorer, does not when I access with
Netscape. Your first page rule in Netscape runs over the side of the center
message table, in it runs to the edge and stops.

Second, the save page of settings is merely a preview area, showing you what
you encoded before the HTML safety-script is imposed. That is: this is what
you should see, not what you will see. The safety script SafeHtml Version
1.11 governs the front (Home) page only. It cuts off code it doesn't like
preventing anything following from showing up and only presenting what fits
the character length restrictions. In other words, it is not wysiwyg (what
you see is what you get).

You really do need to take these points into consideration when designing
your page layout.

Sincerely yours,
AngelPie_Mouse

I'll agree with AngelPie_Mouse on this one. It all appears to load
fine on my computer when I go to your group.

One reason that you may lose information going from settings to your
home page is the length of your HTML that you include in
your "Description" area. I took a gander at your HTML coding and
found quite a bit of superfluous tags in there.

A couple of examples are:
<img <img="<img"
src="http://members.spree.com/family/Sharonlower/Pictures/LDSWomenpian
o.jpg" width="150" height="150" border="0">

~You can take out all of those extra "img" phrases and just put
<img
src="http://members.spree.com/family/Sharonlower/pictures/LDSWomenpian
o.jpg" width="150" height="150" border="0">
While it may not look like a big differnce, it reduces the number of
characters that are taken up. You are only alloted 2000 or so.

"<left><center>"
~The <left> tag is canceled out by the <center> tag. You don't need
the <left> tag here. For that matter, you really don't need the
<center> either since the area is still covered by your last <center>
tag. I saw this in a couple of areas. Again, it just serves to
reduce your 2000 character allotment.

Here is how I would write the same HTML to conserve space and time.
