Scientific Notation

• Scientists sometimes need to express measurements using numbers that are very small or very large

• A value written as a simple number multiplied by a power of ten

• 10 4= 10 000

• 103= 1000

• 102=100

• 101=10

• 100=0

• 10-1=0.1

• 10-2=0.01

• 10-3=0.001
