| Of four aircraft that wre built by A.V. Roe only the CF-100 was produced for the R.C.A.F .Starting with the mk-1 Avro started testing with Rolls-Royce engines as Orenda engines were not ready at this time at this time . originaly (xc-100) the first prototype was the --F B-D #18101 rolled out January ,1950. #18101 was fitted with two ROLLS ROYCE AVON engines .MK-1 was not to be destined for military use......The second cf-100 off the line was the #18102 designated FB-K july ,1950 and was sent to rockliffe experimental October ,1950 .#18102 CRASHED April 5 ,1951 in Caradoc township killing the pilot and avro engineer. The crash was attributed to the lack of oxygen at high altittude and no controls in the rear seat .. The cf-100 was then produced as MK-2 #18103 -18108 #18103 was used for gun placement testing and the rest were converted to MK-2T They were all fitted with orenda engines they were also converted with controls in the rear seat . |
