WORK EXPERIENCE AND INTERNSHIP

Jan 99-May 99              Kizilay (Red Crescent) Hospital, Istanbul

I worked as an intern psychologist at the Kizilay (Red Crescent) Hospital, in the out-patient clinic, where I observed patients with anxiety disorders.

June 98-Sept 98            Veteran�s Affairs Medical Center, Minneapolis,     Minnesota

I was an intern in various clinics at the Veterans� Affairs Medical Center. one of which is the Alcohol Related Disease Clinic (ARCD), which integrates out-patient primary medical care and alcohol treatment techniques. As a trainee, I attended team meetings and observed treatment in an anxiety Interventions Clinic, which provides contemporary-cognitive behavior approaches to treating anxiety disorders (especially post-traumatic stress disorder) and mood disorders (especially depression). In the Addiction Psychiatry Clinic, I observed methadone maintenance and treatment of persons with coexisting severe psychiatric disorders. I had the excellent opportunity to take part in the development of a research project examining the validity of several substance abuse screening instruments in persons with other psychiatric disorders. I was introduced to Exners� Comprehensive Scoring system for the Rorschach. I was provided information about and an orientation to the Minnesota Multiphase Personality Inventory-2. I attended a biweekly �emotional self management group� that uses the principles of Rational Emotive Therapy to help patients better cope with their emotional distress.

Aug 97-May 98              Medical School, Istanbul University

I was an intern in the Liaison Psychiatry Department where I observed consultation sessions conducted for patients with cancer. I accompanied my supervisors in their evaluation of patients with Multiple Personality Disorders. I also got several lectures on performing hypnosis in that period.
