Children in Fostercare: Pilot study in Tamale
This study was undertaken as part of the Social Work practice placement of students from Telemark University College, Norway.  Please read report

The  ESDRU  conducted a survey into the implementation of the Chidlren's Act 1998 in four districts in 2006/7. The aim was to assess the existence of the various structures and procedures required to  protect children and support them in the districts.
The results showed that the existing structures did not meet the standards required by law and there are inadequacies of resources, staffing  and training in all the districts. The key challenges relate to inter-agency coordination/collaboration  and community ignorance of the processes. The results are still being finalised
.

The  analysis of the evaluation study on the Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR)  program is also under way.

Earlier Research on CBR

The Ghana Community-Based Rehabilitation Program in Northern Ghana.

A earlier evaluation study of the Ghana Community Based Rehabilitation program in Nothern Ghana undertaken by Ahmed Bawa Kuyini found some success and issues with implemenation.

The major findings were that the Community-Based Rhabiltation program as conceived by the Government of Ghana was well implemented in terms of the administrative  and structural arrangements. There was substantial positive impact in line with some prgram objectives such as assistance to persons with disabiities, recruiting and engaging volunteer local supervisors, getting parents/guradians to become trainers of persons with disabilities, and the formation of Disabled Peoples' Organisations.

The program however faced clear problems with respect to the mobilization of local communty resources, the sustaining of the volunteer local supervisor concept, and providing support for  persons with visual impairments especially in the earlier onchocerciasis ravaged communites of the Kasena-Nakana District.
