| ACTIVITIES & PROGRAMS Community Services Unit's Actvitites /programs Community Education program: i) Disability issues- The organiation delivers lectures/ seminars on issues of disabilities, and on where and how parents can receive support. ii) Health education issues: The issues of sexually transmitted diseases are also areas addressed. CEVS also keeps a register of service providers in the regions and districts. Services to Children/Youth: These services are provided to children with disabilities, disadvantage children and homeless children. We register a number of children with disabilities, on the street or homeless, those from broken homes, poor homes (polygamous homes where they lack possibilities of support). These are provided with support to attend school and attend organised groups actitivities at our centre to make meaningful use of their time. Child Development Centre: This provides early childhood education to poor children. Counselling program: Our team volunteers provide counseling to children and families regarding educational, maintenance/care and health issues for children with disabilities. We also focus on discussing around conflicts of values pertaining to investing in the education of a child with a disability. Research: The Educational and Social Development Research Unit (ESDRU) has responsibility for research. Our research focus is education and community services for chidlren, quality of early education, welfare policy and practices and meeting needs of students with disabilities in inclusive school classrooms. Our current researc his on CBR abd foster care. Short Courses & Workshops Sessions include: - How to work in the Community-Community negotiation skills. - Health Promotion - Inclusive education and strategies for teaching students with special needs - Communication and language skills required for work with persons with disabilities. - Understanding the Children's Act 1998 - Supporting children with diabilities in the home-Strategies from CBR Approaches. - Early Childhood Education and Parents.
