When I have a bad day, I go home and head to my room. It’s the only room in the house that has never changed since my family moved in. It gives me a sense of security when I enter it. The room is a “Chrissie-only zone,” meaning my sister can’t come in.

My room is very cluttered with my things. On one side of the room are the shelves where I keep the books I’ve accumulated over the years; on the other side is my dresser, where I keep my clothes. On top of the dresser are a TV and a Playstation. When I play games on the Playstation, I usually sit at my desk. My desk has all of my computer games and my computer on it.

When I read books, however, I usually sit on the floor. My floor is carpeted, but thanks to a heater mishap, it has scorch burns on it that I cover with a really scratchy rug. On the walls of my room are posters of my favorite bands, such as KoRn and Evanescence, and my favorite cartoons, like Gundam Wing and Rugrats. My wallpaper, however, is teddy bears. Adding on to the teddy-bear theme are teddy-bear curtains my mom made me two years ago to match the room. I talk to the teddy bears at night when I have a problem. It’s nice to have someone to talk to even if they can’t talk back. In the back of my room, I have my bed filled with stuffed animals, such as Skee Bear and Abu, my teddy bear and monkey. My bed is also by my windows, so I’m usually awakened by the sun on Saturday mornings. I keep my softball and bowling trophies in a display case near my bed. Looking at them makes me feel better after a rough day. I’ve also placed my taekwondo certificates in frames and hung them around my bed as well.

In the middle of my room, I keep my electronic drum set. Dad doesn’t like me playing out in the living room, so I have to keep it in there. I also keep whatever doesn’t fit on my shelves in the middle of the room, such as models I’ve built and pictures I’ve drawn for my website. They’re all in boxes, making the middle of my room look like a pyramid in progress.

My room is my favorite place in the world. In my room, everything is always the same. Like my security blanket, it keeps me safe from everyone else. That’s why, when the world attacks, I don’t strike back. I head to my room.
