| Carlos E. Ufret-Vincenty was born in 1977 in Humacao, Puerto Rico. Through high school Mr. Ufret spent time playing mostly in folk and rock music bands, although he was becoming interested in the classical guitar. In his last year of high school, he started studying the classical guitar seriously, and at age 17 he entered the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music (CMPR), where he took guitar lessons with Jos� Rodr�guez-Alvira, a former student of Alberto Ponce at L'�cole Normale de Musique in Paris, France. Mr. Ufret graduated with honors in December 1998 with a Bachelor's degree in music, receiving the string department medal. From 1998 through July, 2000, he taught guitar lessons at the CMPR's Extension Program. In August, 2000 he entered the guitar program at the Indiana University (IU) School of Music in Bloomigton, IN, where he studied guitar with Ernesto Bitetti, receiving his Master of Music degree in May 2003. During his years of study there, he served as an Associate Instructor of Guitar for IU's guitar department, teaching guitar classes and lessons at all levels, including undergraduate classical guitar majors and students minoring in jazz. In these lessons and classes he taught a variety of styles including rock, acoustic fingerstyle, jazz, and classical guitar. His performances at IU included works like Leo Brouwer's Hika, Joaqu�n Rodrigo's Invocation et danse, Takemitsu's All in Twilight, Piazzolla's Tango Suite, and, in April 2003 he performed the first 2 movements of Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez, as well as the composer's complete Concierto Madrigal for 2 guitars with his long-time friend, guitarist Ramsu� L�pez, and pianist Karin Ou-Yang. Mr. Ufret has premiered works by composers Kenneth D. Froelich and James Holt. He performed many times with the IU Latin-American Popular Music Ensemble, playing works by Astor Piazzolla, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Pixinguinha, and a variety of other composers from all over Latin-America, adding to his knowledge of Latin-American pop/folk guitar styles. From August 2003 to August 2004 he lived in Chicago, where apart from regularly teaching and performing, he took private lessons with world-renowned guitarist Denis Azabagic. Carlos currently lives in Austin, Texas. Throughout his years of study, Mr. Ufret has been chosen to play in masterclasses for some of the most distinguished names in the classical guitar world, including Pepe Romero, Manuel Barrueco, William Kanengiser, Andrew York, Richard Savino, among others. He has also been the recipient of numerous awards, including the Roberto I. Ferdman Award from Pro-Arte Musical de Puerto Rico, the Olympia Barbera scholarship at Indiana University, as well as scholarships to attend the National Guitar Summer Workshop and The Domaine Forget Summer Academy in Qu�bec, Canada. |

| Carlos E. Ufret Vincenty naci� en 1977 en Humacao, Puerto Rico. De 1994 a 1998 estudia en el Conservatorio de M�sica de Puerto
Rico (CMPR), tomando clases de guitarra con Jos� Rodr�guez-Alvira, antiguo alumno de Alberto Ponce en L'�cole Normale de
Musique de Paris. Obtiene su Bachillerato en M�sica (Licenciatura) en el 1998, se le otorga la medalla del departamento de cuerdas. De Enero de 1999 a Julio del 2000 trabaja en el Programa de Extensi�n del CMPR. De Agosto de 2000 a Mayo
2003 fue becado para completar estudios de Maestr�a en M�sica en la Escuela de M�sica de la Universidad de Indiana (IU) en Bloomington, IN (EUA),
tomando clases de guitarra con Ernesto Bitetti. Mientras estudiaba en IU, fungi� como Instructor Asociado, impartiendo clases de guitarra en todos los niveles desde principiantes hasta el nivel universitario de Bachillerato (Licenciatura) en M�sica con concentraci�n en guitarra (Bachellor in Music, guitar performance). Durante sus a�os en IU, Ufret tambi�n particip� en conciertos con el Conjunto de M�sica Popular Latinoamericana (LAPME, por sus siglas en ingl�s), tocando diversos estilos populares tales como el tango argentino, la samba y el bossa nova brasile�os, el danz�n cubano, el lando peruano, etc. De Agosto del 2003 a Agosto del 2004 Ufret vivi� en la ciudad de Chicago (Illinois, EEUU) donde, adem�s de ense�ar y tocar regularmente, tom� clases particulares con el internacionalmente reconocido guitarrista Denis Azabagic. Actualmente, Carlos vive en Austin, Texas. En sus presentaciones a lo largo de sus a�os de estudio, Ufret ha interpretado algunas de las obras m�s importantes del repertorio guitarr�stico, incluyendo las Tres piezas espa�olas, Invocation et danse y Concierto Madrigal, por Joaqu�n Rodrigo, al igual que los dos primeros movimientos del Concierto de Aranjuez por el mismo autor. Adem�s ha interpretado Hika y Sonata de Leo Brouwer, All in Twilight por Toru Takemitsu, Odisea infinita de Juan Sorroche, y ha estrenado obras de Kenneth D. Froelich y James Holt. Ufret ha sido escogido para tocar en clases magistrales para Pepe Romero, Manuel Barrueco, William Kanengiser, Andrew York, Eladio Scharr�n, Richard Provost, entre otros. Ha recibido premios tales como la beca Olympia Barbera de la Universidad de Indiana, el premio Roberto I. Ferdman de la fundaci�n Pro-Arte Musical de Puerto Rico, la beca del National Guitar Summer Workshop, y la beca de la academia de verano del festival de Domaine Forget en Qu�bec, Canada, entre otros. |
