CETP-PA Committee Meeting

In Attendance:

            Faculty: Cignetti, Blackmond, Zisk, and Diterle

Students: Nicole Booze, Jackie Jeffers, Meghan Sweeney, Alyssa Kutska, Brandi Magill, Kate McClelland, and Courtney Rodgers

 

Chairmen: Dr. Cignetti

 

Call to order: the meeting was called to order at 11:00a.m.

 

CETP Scholar: Dr. Cignetti introduced the new CETP scholars for Cohort B. There were five accepted.

 

Cohort C: The new requirements are that secondary ed. must have a GPA of 3.5 and   elementary ed. must have 3.75. Each student from Cohort A received an           application for the upcoming Cohort C. Community College students may apply if they are planning ion transferring to California in the fall. Cignetti addressed        Meghan about being the scholarship Shepard and Katie to produce a cover letter     to the entire science and math department.

 

Materials:   Dr. Cignetti is plann9ing on sending out a list of all the equipment to the     entire school.

 

Science Olympiad: Zisk informed us of how the Science Olympiad is coming. The date           is set for March 21, 2003. Anyone who wants to volunteer would greatly be          appreciated. It would be a great experience. There are 23 different events. They     compete as teams and they can get metals. This event runs from 9:00-3:30. He  going through the events that he needed volunteers for.

 

Meetings: The next meetings will be held on February 20th, March 20th, and April 24th.

 

Harrisburg Trip: Cignetti will be attending the meeting at Harrisburg on February 6, 7, and 8 about the visitations and the funding of CETP.

 

February 11, 2003: ASSET will be visiting on this date and we will be in the Natali from          9:00 to 3:30. There will be elementary education students there. We want to work  with teachers in the field the next time we do this. Some schools are BelleVeron,      West Jefferson, East Alleghany, and Albert Gallatin. This is an attempt to get     everyone on the same page.

 

Cohort C: All of Cohort C has signed their contract. We are to think of summer projects          for the conference.

 

Attachment Grant: Cignetti informed us of the grant for K-8 in service teachers and education. This is an 11 million dollar grant. Governor Rendell is in support of this.

 

Next Conference: The next conference is scheduled for August 13, 14, 15, and 16 at Edinboro University.

 

PJAS: Diterle asked if anyone knew anything about PJAS. Nicole stated that it was on February 15, 2003 at 8:00 a.m. in LRC.

 

Act 48 Workshops: Cignetti addressed that there was a request for math workshops. He asked if anyone had any ideas. Zisk said he was thinking about a southwestern science teacher’s mini conference.

 

Westinghouse: The Westinghouse program will be held on the third or second week of June, working with environmental chemistry. It will last for three days and it will be sixteen hour days.

 

Middle School Issue: Zisk printed out the middle school certification documents for everyone to read.

 

Closing Remarks:  Cignetti asked if there were no more questions. There were no more.

 

Next Meeting: The next meeting will be February 20, 2003 at 11:00a.m.in Keystone 423.
