CETP-PA Committee Meeting

17 April 2003

 

In Attendance:

            Faculty: Jess Cignetti, Joe Zisk, Jerry Blackmon, Glenn Hider, Barbara Hess,    Kaddour Boukaabar, and Jane Bonari

Students: Meghan Sweeney, Alyssa Kutska, Kate McClelland, C.J. Shimshock

Call to order: The meeting was called to order at 11:00a.m.

 

Higher Order Questioning Seminar: Cignetti mentioned that the seminar is Wednesday, April 23, 2003 in Keystone 205.  It will be conducted by Dr. Belch. Zisk said Elaina from across the hall could videotape it.

 

Westinghouse Project: Cignetti informed us that it will take place June 17, 18, and 19. It will cover environmental chemistry in particular the GLOBE protocols.  He also stated that Gould will be doing the hydrology protocol, Kauffman will do the atmosphere protocol, Thumser will do the land cover protocol, and Zisk will do the soil protocol.  Zisk also asked questions about the protocols.

 

PDE Schools and ASSET: Cignetti announced that there will be a four day inquiry workshop with 24 schools including the professional development schools of Belle Vernon, West Jefferson Hills, Canon-McMillon, and Albert Gallatin.  It will be held July 8-11 plus a follow up date in October. The workshop will be in partnership with the College of Education.

 

Summer Geometry Workshop: Bonari announced the “Geometry: Shape Up” workshop for in-service and pre-service teachers that will be held Wednesday, June 25 between approximately 9:00 to 2:00.

 

Slippery Rock State CETP Meeting: Cignetti announced that he will be attending on April 24 and 25.

 

Summer Conference at Edinboro: Cignetti announced that reservations need to be made soon so any faculty wishing to attend should notify him as soon as possible. The faculty will be reimbursed for transportation.

 

Budget: Cignetti said that the budget will be established within a month. He estimates approximately $34,000-$35,000.  It will be used heavily for evaluating and surveying students.

 

Summer Workshop Proposals: Hider passed out and explained applications for summer workshop proposals.  Zisk asked about graduate credits regarding the workshops.

            Boukaabar suggested having a choice between graduate credit and Act 48 hours.  Hider also passed out an example proposal.  He also stated that the workshop for technology and science can accommodate approximately 20 people.

            Bonari and Hess suggested a standards workshop. Cignetti along with other faculty approved pushing through Hider’s technology and science workshop. They set the date for June 23 and 24.  They have also set a tentative date for Hess’ standards workshop for Thursday, June 25.  Hider also mentioned that he will speak with Barb Webb about sending out a composite flyer for all the workshops being offered the week of June 23, and send the information to Cignetti via e-mail.

 

New Graduate Class:  Cignetti said that there will be a new graduate class offered in the fall for Math, Science, and Technology.

 

Magazines for the Center: Boukaabar would like to send some reading materials over to the center to store as resources.  Accommodations will be made by the center to have the grounds crew pick them up from his room (EST 317).

 

Closing Remarks: Cignetti asked if anyone else had anything to say. There were no    more questions.
