Dr. Cignetti welcomed the new faculty members to the committee, Drs. Gill and Yasmin. He indicated that conflicts in schedule caused a number of old members to indicate they would not be in attendance. In addition Professor Bonari, was at a PDE site visitation.

Discussion occurred on the 2003 summer conference held at Edinboro University. The program was outstanding and everyone’s looking ahead to the 2004 conference to be held at Clarion University in August.

Dr Cignetti updated the committee on the following events held during June and July of 2003:

1. Inquiry endorsement workshop that was held July 8-11 and attended by 17 in-service teachers from the area.  The program was conducted by ASSET.  The workshop was held in the Eberly Science and Technology building.

2. Mathematics Workshop-“Shape Up with Geometry”, held June 24, 2003 in Keystone Education building. Eighteen teachers attended. The workshop leaders were Prof. Bonari and Abraham.

The committee discussed the Dr. Lords’ constructivist presentation on September 16, 2003, to the faculty in the College of Science and Technology. It was agreed that a follow-up workshop should be conducted later in the semester for interested faculty and pre-service science and mathematics teachers.

On October 6 and 7, 2003 approximately 190 student teachers will attend a training session on inquiry teaching. This program was piloted in February of 2003 and was found to be very enriching for the pre-service teachers.

The California CETP student scholars, during the fall 2003 semester will be working on their:

                        a.  website

                        b.  recruitment plans

                        c.  tutoring

                        d.  semester projects

A busy semester is anticipated by all.

Discussion centered on a curriculum class that Dr. Hider is presently teaching.  All teaching scholars are invited to attend.
