- Where do you get the ideas for your stories?
- The stories evolve naturally out of the characters. Sometimes, I'll have an idea to
write stories about the children of two sisters (The Cousins of Kilcavan series), or to write
about a huge group of siblings (the Clan Kitteridge series). Other times, the plots come out of old things I'd written years ago.
The characters and some of the plot for the Midnight Child trilogy first appeared as a high school creative writing assignment.
I based Reunions on a college crush, and Right Then and There is loosely based on a high school band trip.
- Why do you use a pen name?
- Because I thought it might sell more books. :) Seriously, though, I use a pen name
because my own is rather boring and hard to pronounce by many, so I use Cecile St. Anne to simplify things.
- Do you read/critique other writers' work?
- Sorry, kids. I've got plenty of my own work to do. Besides, that's what the agents and publishers are for.
- Do you accept ideas from others?
- No. If it's not my idea, it's not my book. Besides, you should reap the rewards for your own ideas.
- How did you get started?
- Writing an outline here, a chapter or bit of dialog there over the decades. My lunch hours and breaks were filled
with little bits of writing, and so were many late nights after work.
- Where can I get your books?
- Once published, you can purchase my books at any local retailer or bookstore. I also do personal appearances now and again,
and the host company usually stocks extra copies. I don't sell them out of my back room, so please, send all requests to the
appropriate retailer or the publisher.
- Do you do anything other than write?
- I thought you'd never ask! Movies are a particular passion of mine, as well as
ice hockey and volleyball. I'm also an avid reader, and have been known on occasion to drag the flute out of the closet
for an afternoon. But when I discover I actually have a bit of spare time, I spend it with my felines, Tinker Belle and Molly,
and my close circle of friends.
