| My name is Andy Frey. I am the founder of Extreme Self Defense. Extreme Self Defense has evolved from my experience in self protection, the Department of Corrections, Law Enforcement and Martial Arts. I began studying Self-Defense when I started in the Iowa Departmetn of Corrections in 1997. After working in the prison for only a short time and having recieved very little training in Self-Defense I could see that I lacked the skills neccesary to protect myself and those around me. In an effort to change that I found myself becoming an instructor for Personal Safety at the Correctional Facility. I took all the training availale and found there were still gaps in what I had learned and what I needed to know to become confident in my abilities. The more I learned, the more I realized how little I actually knew. This statement has remained true even through today. I stepped outside the Department of Corrections and began to take all sorts of Self-Defense classes including Hapkido. My training is a never ending evolution, because as times change, so do the needs of Self-Defense. While I have been taking and teaching classes, influences from students as well as co-trainers have highlighted an interest in making classes more available. Those interests and the cooperation of Iowa Western Community College have made Extreme Self-Defense possible. Extreme Self-Dfense is proud to offer classes in Hapkido, Street Self-Defense, ILEA Defensive Tactics, Asp Baton and PPCT. |
