2nd Place, Danville Tournament
Going into this season, expectations were high with having 4 returning starters from the 72-73 Elite 8 team. CG won its first 6 games going undefeated into the Danville Holiday Tournament. Playing against schools with an average enrollment of 1,696 the broncos beat 2 Chicago Schools, but lost to a tough Danville team in double overtime. Following this game CG went on a tremendous tear drawing unbelievable capacity crowd for all home and away games. It did not matter where the game was played, it was a full house. The final three home games were televised on cable TV, all three games CG won big, scoring over 100 points in all three games. The last of the three our team won 120-57 setting a record that still stands today. In the post season a few games were close, however the Broncos made a return trip to the Assembly Hall riding a 20 game winning streak. The Broncos wound up losing a double over-time thriller to the eventual state champion, Lawrenceville. Following the season, the 4 Senior starters jerseys were retired, an honor which had never happend prior in school history, and has never happened since, in school history.
This team truly, IS, Cerro Gordo Basketball.

#14, SR Jim Neff
Special Mentin, All-State. News-Gazette & Herald & Review All Area Teams. Danville and Champaign All-Tournament teams. 1974 Co-MVP. Jim still currently holds a number of school records. He became a valuable offensive weapon his Senior year averaging 15.5 points per game. Put that with great ball-handling skills, being a tremendous floor leader, you have one tremendouse player.
#12, SR Homer O'Field
Honorable Mention Danville Holday Tournament. All-Tournament team at State. A tremendous shootin, still hold free throw records to this day. A very solid scorer, averaging 13.3 points per game his Senior year. Was voted as the "hot dog" player of the year, by his coaches and teamates. And was also and honorary Captain.
#22, SR Larry Pflum
Honorable Mention, All-State. All Tournament Team at Danville. LOVC Sencond Team All-Conference. 15.6 points per game, a good defender, and rebounder. Larry was an honorary captain.
#4, SO Terry Curran
The most improved player on the team. Terry began starting during the Danville Tournament and played very well the rest of the season. Many believe that him tipping the ball in led to the teams comback in the game vs. Chrisman in the Sectional Championship, a game he scored 12 points.
