We are very proud of what our team accomplished this season. We have won 20 games for the second straight season, and our win vs. Shiloh gave us our second of back-to-back LOVC Conference Championships as well.
Earlier in the year, we compeated once again, in the Macon County Tournament. We lost our first game to local rival Decatur St. Teresa, but then bounced back winning two straight over Sangamon Valley and Central A & M to capture the consolation championship. Cerro Gordo has never won trophies in the County tournament in back-to-back years. So our team accomplished something the no other has ever done in school history.
Following the Macon County Tournament we defeated Concord Triopia in the Illinois College shootout in Jacksonville. We carried that momentum into the TeamSoy Capital Tournament at St. Teresa, winning 3 games in a row against, Bement, Okaw Valley, and Maroa-Forsyth. Defeating Maroa was not an easy task, the game had several lead changes, we were down 8 with about 3 minutes to go, fought back, and it took a buzzer beating put back by Tyler Phelps to give us the win. We came up short in the tournament final against St. Teresa, but brought home the second place trophy. Dating back to the 2006-07 season, this is the 6th straight tournament that we have brought a trophy back from. Previous to 2007, it had been 5 years since our program had won any trophy
