Summary: Obi-Wan is 15 and girls are...well, intimidating. Can Qui-Gon and Lara convince him that they won't bite..hard? Shy Violet ============== Obi-Wan was in his room. Again. Qui-Gon sighed loudly and flipped on the Holonet. He figured that if Obi-Wan was going to tell him anything, he'd better not be prying for it. As his young padawan grew older, he became more distant and quiet. Obi-Wan used to be a lively boy, always running through the Temple and getting into some sort of trouble. While Qui-Gon didn't miss the countless disciplinary meetings, he did miss the vibrant energy that Obi-Wan used to exude. Obi-Wan padded into the living area just then, hair mussed from lying on his pillow and his eyes red from sleeping. He yawned, stretched, then plopped down on the opposite end of the sofa Qui-Gon was occupying. "Something bothering you, Padawan?" Obi-Wan shook his head mutely and grabbed the remote from Qui-Gon. Finally settling on a music station, he grabbed some of the chocolate Qui-Gon had been eating and settled even deeper into his end of the sofa. "Want to talk about it?" Qui-Gon didn't want to press, but something had his padawan in a foul mood. He wanted to know who or what it was. "Not really, Master. It's complicated." Obi-Wan met his gaze for a moment and stared back at the holoprojector. He seemed completely absorbed in the music, but Qui-Gon knew that something was eating at his padawan. He was determined to find out what. "Try me. I was sixteen once." Obi-Wan snorted in laughter and shot him a pointed look. "What? Four millenia ago?" Qui-Gon threw a pillow at him and continued on with what he thought was a proper, "fatherly" speech. "No, young one. I remember being fifteen here in the Temple. Hanging out with friends, going to classes, scoping girls." At that, Obi-Wan stiffened. Aha! He'd found it. The fairer sex was tying Obi-Wan in knots. "What's her name, Padawan?" Obi-Wan sighed loudly, irritated at being found out. Other padawans didn't have THIS much trouble just talking to a girl. She wasn't even the prettiest girl in the Temple. As a matter of fact, Sarie went pretty much unnoticed. Except to him. Oh yes, he'd noticed Sarie quite a bit. What he didn't understand was the fact that he could talk to Bant just fine, but this one girl had him more nervous than a mynock. "Sarie. Sarie Aratar. She's one of the female padawans." Qui-Gon smiled. He didn't know the particular girl, but any girl Obi-Wan was besotted with was lucky indeed. So, what was the problem? "So this..Sarie. What's she like?" Obi-Wan smiled brightly and launched into a long explaination. "Well, she has blue eyes and dark hair. She's quiet, like me, but she's really smart. She's really good with Healing and..oh. Her mouth is perfectly kissable. As much as I can imagine anyway. I mean, having not kis-" Obi-Wan blushed as Qui-Gon cut him off mid-sentence. "Enough Padawan, you're rambling. So, have you spoken to her? Or have you just given her gooey-eyed glances when she wasn't looking?" Obi-Wan sighed again. No, he hadn't spoken to her. He was afraid he'd make a fool of himself and refrained from speaking to her at all. "No, I haven't. It's hard, Master. I try to say something, and my tongue gets tied up in knots. I wish I was like Bruck. He can talk to ANY girl." Obi-Wan slumped down into the sofa and Qui-Gon gave him a reassuring smile. "Bruck is only confident because he believes in himself. A little too much at times, but he still has self-confidence. Think about it Obi-Wan. Maybe this Sarie would rather have a kind, sensitive boy to be her boyfriend, not an egotistical one like Bruck." Obi-Wan rolled his eyes at this. "Master, please. Like any girl would want someone kind and sensitive." Obi-Wan jerked his head up when he heard a female voice contest his statement. "I beg to differ, Obi. I personally enjoy a guy who doesn't talk about himself all the time. Besides, with those gorgeous eyes and killer dimples, how could she say no? If I were fifteen, I'd be all over you." Lara Dyas, Qui-Gon's latest girlfriend, settled down on the sofa next to Obi-Wan and snuck her hand out to grasp some of the now-communal chocolate. Obi-Wan blushed, not really used to being noticed by females of any age, much less beautiful ones like Lara. "You think so, Lara? I mean, I'm not really her type..." Obi-Wan trailed off as Lara stared him down with her dark eyes. "Not her 'type'? Honey, you could sweep any woman off her feet if you gave yourself half a chance! I want you to quit being a shy violet, get out there, and tell that girl how you feel. Don't come back until you've done so and bring her with you." Lara pushed Obi-Wan out of the door, eyes narrowed at a hysterical Qui-Gon. "You didn't have to call him a 'shy violet,' you know. I think he'd have gotten the picture without referring to him as a plant." Qui-Gon had sobered somewhat, but mirth still danced in his blue eyes. "Aww, you know it's true. Hey, I think I hear them. C'mon, lets be bad role-models and listen through the door." Lara and Qui-Gon kneeled down next to the door and pressed both of their ears to the smooth plexisteel. "Obi-Wan, what's this all about? Am I in trouble with Master Jinn or something?" Lara and Qui-Gon assumed that this was the now-infamous Sarie. They heard Obi-Wan shuffling and then he finally responded. "No..not really. Actually, I need to tell you something." They heard Sarie start to speak and then she was silenced by Obi-Wan. "No, it's important. Let me get this out, ok? I like you. Uh, a lot." Lara was sure that Obi-Wan was beet red by this point, and she was silently cheering him on. "Well, I like you too, Obi. You're a great friend." Obi-Wan shushed Sarie again and started to speak. "No, I like you more than a friend. I like you like a girlfriend. Ugh, that sounded stupid. Sorry, Sarie." They heard a loud thump then and pulled open the door. Out tumbled Lara and Qui-Gon, both embarassed at having been caught. "MASTER! LARA! Obi-Wan put his face in his hands and was surprised when Sarie started rubbing the back of his neck reassuringly. "It's ok, Obi-Wan. I like you too. I'm just a little shy when it comes to boys, especially boys with adorable dimples and dreamy eyes." Sarie flashed a smile at Obi-Wan, who was blushing profusely. Qui-Gon and Lara just smiled, flashing Obi-Wan looks that said, "I told you so." ------- Fin
