Chapter 8: White Echoes.

...

..

.

"Where...Am I...?", a faint murmur escaped a certain redhead's lips as his wandering ruby red eyes gazed everywhere around him slowly in silence. The area surrounding him was coated with white from every point of view he could manage; not too dark, not too bright. The unknown light conceived a quiet and calm prefecture, which lies a hidden warmth of endurance, making the fourteen-year-old relaxed at ease on the outcome. It sure likely didn't feel like one of his typical solemn and mysterious dreams or even felt like the current moment in reality all the same. Daisuke felt tired and weary, but for some odd reason, he didn't want to stay in one particular spot either. A sudden light gust of wind blew past him and Daisuke instinctively shifted his gaze towards the source of the breeze and his ruby red orbs caught the sight of an unfamiliar figure standing quite a few paces away from where he was at the moment.

"Who is it in your heart?", the stranger, a girl asked him as her long peace coloured hair tousled against the warm breeze, covering her hidden eyes. Daisuke took a moment to blink a few times in confusion before he decided to reply back in a question manner. He hadn't seen the girl before and many questions in his head started to shift around uncontrollably as his curiosity began to build within him.

"Who...Are you...?", Daisuke tried to make an attempt in reverse of the girl's weird question. The girl frowned a little as the soft breeze started to swirl around Daisuke a little faster, producing a feeling of fear within the redhead as he started to worry a little on the unexpected outcome. As he came to notice it, he wasn't wearing any particular Dark Mousy leather outfit anymore, but a simple pair of pure white shirt and jeans.

Before Daisuke could managed another word, a few large crystal-like mirrors appeared all around the timid child, each and every one of them containing images of the people in which he holds different feelings for. His questioning eyes scanned them one by one; Emiko, Kosuke, Daiki, With, Riku, Risa, Takeshi, Krad, Dark...

...And even Satoshi.

"Who is it in your heart? The person who surrenders trust, presents warmth and sincerely protects. The person who is always there, smiles for you and kisses you with passion. The person who clears your doubts, drowns your fear and catches you when you fall. The person who surpasses that all, is the one who pledges both fates with that ring.", she continued speaking in a soft and slow tone, explaining before she raised her right hand and deliberately pointed towards a certain small item which was seen on Daisuke's forth finger. The redhead's eyes widen in horror as he eyed the ring sealed onto his finger, his young mind raced a remembrance on the legend he'd told his alter ego about earlier.

"What...? But--But, it's a legend!", the fourteen-year-old stammered in shock. He worriedly stared at the stranger who'd just shook her head slowly in response. The wind surrounding the both of them started to turn violent, causing the fourteen-year-old to shield a part of his face using his arm as the crystals near him whirled around mercilessly out of control, clouding his view.

"There's not much time, Niwa Daisuke. Who is it in your heart?", the girl asked again, but this time, in a lower and solemn tone which reflected sorrows and regret, much to Daisuke's expectations. He was equally shocked himself on how the person got to know his name in the first place. The area started to turn into a dark shade of black as the crystals clashed against each other and before he'd knew it, he was falling helplessly into the empty void without any strength of all a sudden and no one to call out to.

"I don't...Understand...Wait...", Daisuke's unfocused eyes stared back at the figure hovering high above him as her long delicate hair danced according to the rhythmic waltz surrounding her. A sharp pain entered the redhead's silent mind and he couldn't manage to keep himself conscious from the stabbing pain, much less accept his situation in a proper manner. His vision blurred from the outcome and all he could recall was the sound of the girl's voice ringing desperately in his head before he drifted away into his own world.

Who is it...?

It...Hurts...

Who is it...?

Somebody...Help...

Who...?

Hiwatari-kun...

.

..

...

"Dai-chyan! Can you hear me? Oh, Dai-chyan, honey!", Emiko's childish voice broke the silence which filled up Daisuke's head as he slowly fluttered his adorable ruby red eyes open from his mother's call. His vision slowly got back to him as he concentrated on the surrounding. The pain in him slowly subsided little by little as he desperately tried to regain back his strength and will to stay awake. The last time he could recall was when he was forced to face his alter ego's dangerous nemesis and the memory remain in a faint light from a corner of his mind.

"Okaa-san...?", he softly muttered upon the image of his concerned mother staring at him next to his father who was sitting on a chair while supporting a wet cloth damped onto their son's forehead. With nuzzled its master's shirt as a sign of worry written all over its cute face. Daisuke peered at the three of them with almost soulless eyes and still having a mild headache, it took him quite a while to realize that he was laid down on a couch earlier according to the position he was in at the moment.

"Oh, thank heavens you're alright! Your beautiful mother was worried sick about you!", the short-haired woman squealed with tears of joy as she mercilessly wrapped her slender arms around her weary son in a bear hug. Daisuke winced a little on the sudden impact before he noticed that his chest was wrapped neatly in rolls of bandages due to a certain incident, which caused an equal serious injury to him. Even a bandage was plastered on his cheek where Krad's hand had made hard contact in a sharp slap to cover the red mark.

"Are you sure you well enough to attend school today, Daisuke? You passed out quite a number of times just this morning. It's possible you might do the same in school today.", Kosuke finally spoke out as he placed the piece of cloth aside in a pail of cold water beside him. The tone in his voice sounded concerned, the glint in his eyes reflected a sign of worry from within. Daisuke had never witnessed his father feeling that intimate about him before judging by the years that they've not went through together in time to build a father-son bond.

"Huh...? School...?", the red-haired teenager muttered slowly as if he'd just woken up from a very long sleep. He reluctantly raised a limp hand to the side of his head and rubbed it a little.

"Kyu! Daisuki!", With squealed in correction. It smiled brightly upon it's master's question and beamed at Daisuke with huge adorable eyes. The silent child turned to his parents who both nodded slightly in unison, supporting their son's little white pet's response.

"Aa...Right, school...", Daisuke pretended to nod slowly on the outcome, although a part of himself was still asleep and he didn't want to make his parents worried too much on the matter. With bounced onto the Kosuke's lap as it eyed its master push himself upwards from his position and shook his head slightly to keep his gaze straight before he advanced towards the front door, swaying a little now and then, but concentrated to grip his sense of balance. Emiko helped to support his weary looking son, but Daisuke was prone to walk by himself as he proceeded forwards alone.

"I'll be going now...Jya naa...", he said before slipping his pair of white school shoes on and disappeared out of the house without even stop to glance back with his cheerful normal smile which had always made Emiko's heart melt.

"Oh dear...I hope he didn't catch a bad fever again...Do you think Dai-chyan had better stay in bed today?", the childish-like mother of his cocked her red head slightly to the side as she rested a hand on her cheek. She'd never seen his son behaving quite strange before and what a coincidence, it started to happen after the incident at the Love Funfair. The press was mentioning it later on where she'd heard about the huge explosion on television right before Daisuke slumped home with a serious injury. She and Kosuke were too busy curing their son, buried with worry and concern too much like a burden that they didn't bother to ask Daisuke about the Love Ring that he was supposed to steal that very night.

"That will bring up suspicions. Daisuke needs some time on his own. Go and keep an eye on him, With.", the raven-haired man announced as he peered down at the fluffy white creature on his lap. Kosuke's tender lips silently curled up into a light smile for he didn't hesitate to scratch gently on With's soft chin in advance, emitting a small muffled 'Kyu...' amusing as it cooed adorably from his touch. With looked up at Emiko to get her permission as well. She smiled back in response which gives Daisuke's little white pet the green light to go out in public.

"Kyu!", squealing with delight, With bounced off Kosuke's lap and darted out of the Niwa residence to catch up with its master who shouldn't be too far from its position since it had only been a few minutes after he'd left the house. The man with mysterious dark black eyes abruptly stood up from his seat and claimed the small pail in his strong arms before advancing out of the living room without saying a word.

"This is the first time I see you feel concerned for Dai-chyan, Kosuke-san.", Emiko said as she flashed a sincere smile towards her husband as she eyed him leaving the particular area. The raven-haired man shrugged slightly at the remark. He settled the pail at its usual place before running a free hand along his own hair, letting his fingers slide shapelessly along the soft jet-black strands.

"I just hope he remembers the way home.", Kosuke answered without an expression. His wife sweatdropped in response.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was a fairly cool morning as a certain redhead paced slowly down the familiar pathway, which led him straight to his education ground, Azumano No.2 Middle School. The sky reflected a pure light shade of blue as a few cotton candy-like clouds swirled around the area, filling up the empty spots. A gentle breeze swayed rhythmically in a soft waltz, blowing his delicate blood red strands a little. His footsteps were light, yet quite in a haste at the same time in order to reach his school before the bell rings.
\\ Daisuke? \\
His alter ego's call wasn't answered by the red-haired teenager. Dark pouted to himself and tried another attempt to call his host.
\\ Oi, Daisuke... \\
Unfortunately, Daisuke was still having unfocused and weary ruby red eyes as he stared at nothing in particular at the moment while walking down the certain path. The violet-eyed thief didn't sound too pleased with his other half's attitude as he mentally tapped his foot impatiently in the corner of the child's reserved mind. When he couldn't take it any longer, Dark burst out in a loud yell, which finally snapped Daisuke out of his trance.
\\ DAISUKE! \\
\ Aa! Gomen nee, Dark... \
A short period of silence surrounded them once again before the legendary phantom sighed inwardly and began the conversation.
\\ Daisuke, I'm seriously worried about you. You shouldn't have bothered to attend school today, you know. You still look tired from yesterday's...Erm, incident. \\
\ Do I...? What happened yesterday...? \
\\ You can't remember? Daisuke, something's weird going on around here...And that ring...Why aren't you bothered to take it off? \\
As Dark's voice trailed off after the question, but Daisuke was not concentrating on his alter ego again which started to worry Dark a little for he was wondering how come the redhead was behaving in such an odd way. Furthermore, it was always Daisuke who pestered him with mental talking, not vice versa.
\\ Daisuke? \\
\ Aa! Gomen nee...I couldn't hear you... \
\\ That's it...You're not behaving yourself...Take that goddamn ring off now! \\
"...No...", the red-haired teenager answered in a soft and slow tone, much to Dark's expectations. Something was really bothering the violet-eyed thief now, but there was nothing he could do about it except calling out from the corner of the boy's mind to get his attention. Unfortunately, it was to no avail due to the fact that Daisuke's eyes had turned into a darker shade of red as if he was being possessed. A gentle swirl of wind surrounded the small figure as he continued to walk down the concrete sidewalk and Dark noticed the particular ring on his host's forth finger was slowly glowing, the light getting stronger and stronger.
\\ Daisuke?! \\
"I know he loves me...I'm going to wait for his love...", Daisuke's contact with his alter ego was getting further and further in the process. Dark could sense a strange aura which was trying to keep them apart and the violet-eyed thief remembered the legend that his host told him yesterday night about the cursed Love Ring, causing his heart to sink into the bricks of panic.
\\ Oi! What are you talking about?! \\
"Even if I die for him...", the boy's voice trailed off towards the end. Dark was determined. He couldn't just let his host's life in danger for the situation was bound to sound worse than it already was.
\\ This is not you! Daisuke! Listen to me! \\
But, his call was totally ignored as the redhead entered his school ground without saying a word in protest. With was still in his tracks, bouncing along silently without its master's notice.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Meanwhile in class, a certain blue-haired teenager kept himself reserved in his usual seat, ignoring every rabid fan girl passing by with an ominous giggle, some even swooning or making a fool out of themselves; he was practically used to that. From the corner of his mind, he was silently having an ignorant conversation with his alter ego, the sadistic fallen angel.

// Did you have a good sleep, my pet? //

A part of Satoshi was still raging with anger due to the fact on what had happened to Daisuke yesterday night. He purposely flipped the very few pages of his notebook to keep his attention away from the homicidal blonde.

/ Shut up, Krad. I have nothing to say to you. /

// Are you mad at me for hurting your precious Niwa? //

/ Don't bother me. /

// I take that as a 'yes'. Why should you even have the slightest bit of worry in you when you claim that you don't love him, hmm? //

/ That's none of your bloody business. /

// Well, I can clearly see that my presence at the moment is not welcomed. I'll leave you in peace to think about it, my pet. //

The blue-haired boy frowned silently upon Krad's response. He'd knew very well his alter ego's purpose of doing so, which was to reclaim back his energy. Quite a number of his strength; Satoshi's strength, had been used that particular night and he needed to be prepared whenever the situation called for it.

/ There's nothing to think about. I never said that I'd accept your offer. /

// Oh, but it still stands. Your precious Niwa will not live long, Hiwatari Satoshi. Are you deliberately testing my patience or would you prefer to witness him drop dead right before your beautiful eyes? If you'd surrender your body to me, maybe I would re-consider of sparing the boy's life, but how about a broken body part as a memorable souvenir perhaps? //

"Shut the hell up!", Satoshi couldn't take the tensed situation any longer and burst out in rage, yelling at the top of his lungs as he slammed the table with ignite force. The whole class grew silent and shocked eyes all darted towards the main source. Risa stopped giggling with her friends. Riku nearly dropped her books. Takeshi's eyes were wide in horror.

"Yo, Satoshi. You okay?", the raven-haired boy asked with a nervous tone in his voice. Takeshi had never came across his classmate who'd go ballistic out of the blue and in this case, Satoshi was the last person he'd expected to do so. The blue-haired boy ignored all the weird expressions facing him as he abruptly strode out of the classroom without bothering to look back or even utter a word. The bell hasn't rang yet which indicates that it was still early for class.

"Damnit, Krad...I'd give up my life than to put up with your existence...", leaning against the wall, the blue-haired boy silently ran a hand through his own hair and closed his eyes with a slight bit anger remained within him. He let out an inward sigh and proceeded to walk down the hallway to inhale the cool morning air for a while, but then, his cold blue eyes caught sight of a certain redhead who had his weary body leaning against the wall for support from the other side of the hallway.

"Niwa?", Satoshi's wandering eyes studied the smaller boy's expression. Ruby red eyes tired and unfocused. His usual steady breath became in heavy heaps of air as if he was struggling for the one of the options of survival. Forehead moist with sweat as if he'd just came back from a marathon.

"Niwa? What happened to you?", the blue-haired boy approached his classmate with a glint of concern hidden beneath those icy blue orbs. Daisuke looked very pale and his vision started to blur out once again.

\ Dark...What's wrong with me...? Hiwatari-kun... \

\\ Daisuke! Get a grip on yourself! \\

\ I can't...There's something...Someone... \

\\ Daisuke! \\

"Niwa!", Satoshi was just in the neck of time, catching the limp body of the red-haired teenager in his supporting arms before Daisuke passed out. He was thankful that Krad wasn't there to bother him in this kind of situation. The blue-haired teenager gently carried Daisuke in his arms, thinking to himself either to get unofficially out of school to his apartment or bring the smaller boy to the school ward. It wasn't an easy decision for he knew the situation they were in was even important as he recalled Krad's words earlier. True enough, something wasn't right. Daisuke surely wasn’t being himself and the supposedly main reason could enough be the Love Ring on his forth finger.

\\ You stay away from him--I mean, us--I mean, Ah! Whatever! Shoo! Shoo! Creepy bastard! \\

Without having any second thoughts, he ignored his conscience and started to walk off out of the school grounds with the redhead still in his arms. He silently escaped out of the area without any other students' or teachers' knowing and headed for his apartment which luckily, was only a few minutes walk from where he was at the moment and the public hadn’t started their daily routine.

\\ Daisuke! Wake up! Damnit, I feel so helpless... \\

"Kyu! Daisuki!", With stumbled down a tree nearby and growled intimately at Satoshi from the back who had already took flight along with its master. Thinking that Daisuke would be in trouble, the little white pet of his quickly dashed after them in a hurry as well, but no thanks to a few wild dogs that didn't seem quite friendly in a way, it looked like it would have more trouble to itself first.
