Cerddorion Nyfed Suggested Reading List
(Always Under Construction!)

Celtic Heritage, Alwyn and Brinley Rees.
A rather dry read, but absolutely packed with worthwhile material!

The Book of Druidry, Ross Nichols.
Although it includes much on the writings of Iolo Morganwg,
and tends towards the Neo-Pagan,
there is much excellent historical information here as well.

The Celtic Reader, compiled and edited by John Matthews.
Probably the personal favorite of everyone in our Grove.
Some of the material within makes very dry reading,
but the material is very historically well-based and quite inspiring.

The Mabinogi, translated and edited by Patrick K. Ford.
Much more faithful in translation than that of Lady Gregory, at least in this Grove's opinion.

Celtic Women's Spirituality, Edain McCoy.
Although a lot of modern Druids urge staying away from any books published by Llewellyn,
many in our Grove (particularly our female members) have found this a worthwhile read.
Most of the research is dead-on, and the rituals are done very much in the spirit of the Old Ways.

Druid Magic, Maya Magee Sutton and Nicholas R. Mann.
Another from Llewellyn.
Probably the best thing they've published on Druidry so far.
Although not a reconstructionist text, there is a wealth of information within it,
and wonderful suggestions on leading and participating in a working grove,
and upon the path of Druidry.

The Arthurian Tarot, Caitlan and John Matthews.
Beautifully illustrated deck of cards and companion book.
Explores the Hallowquest--the Arthurian Quest for the Grail,
which corresponds with the Arthurian search for the Mabon in the Mabinogi.
An important set for the Celtic "Shaman".

The Druid Animal Oracle, Philip and Stephanie Carr-Gomm.
Another deck and cards set.
This is probably the favorite medium of our Grove for divination and counseling.
Deck depicts various animals important to the Celts as totems,
and the companion book explains them as symbols important to the reader in daily life,
as well as relating stories from the various Celtic myths and legends.
A ton of information packed in a small package.
Also includes a gorgeous cloth for laying the cards.
I've heard recently that this is supposedly out of print,
but I believe it is still available from Azure Green.

The Kitchen Witch's Cookbook, Patricia Telesco.
Don't be put off by the title!
Although technically not a Druidic text at all,
we think this deserves mention as it has served us well
at our feasts thus far.

A Druids Herbal for the Sacred Earth Year, Ellen Evert Hopman.
By far the best vlume our Grove members have ever found
concerning herbalism in Druidry.
Also a beloved favorite of our dearly beloved teacher of Herbalism,
Broom....
We shall be ever grateful to her for all
that she gave to this Grove....
