Brotherhood and Sisterhood Policy

CEP Local 848 chooses to facilitate the re-entry of a member who works "beyond the scope of the agreement" back into the brotherhood and sisterhood of the Union.  Our Union contract affords our members reasonable wages, benefits and working conditions.  CEP Local 848 requires that the member maintain their union dues for the time they are working "beyond the scope of the agreement".  Foregoing this requirement will affect your seniority and your status as a member of CEP Local 848.  Any overtime aquired (for any reason) during a time a member is working beyond the "scope of the agreement" must appear on the appropriate overtime list of the affected department.  It is a further requirement that members who choose to work beyond the scope of the agreement will not be available for overtime that occurs within their former job scope, even though they may be qualified to do that work.

Member Representation Policy

It is the responsibility of CEP Local 848 to represent its members at the bargaining table and for legitimate grievances against the employer  and for other reasons as deemed appropriate by the members from time to time.  It is the policy of this union to not represent members who move to positions within the company that are "beyond the scope of the (collective) agreement" as such representation is incompatible with the Labour Relations Act.  Positions "beyond the scope of the agreement" are deemed to be Operations Co-ordinator and Operations Shift Co-ordinator or other similar positions depending on the department and any other positions as identified by the membership from time to time.
