| This web page has been designed to commemorate the lunch my two best friends and I had to celebrate my twenty fourth birthday. Given that my birthday falls near the Easter holidays every year, most of the time I happen to be home in Athens partying with my family and friends there. However, since 2002 and after the abolition of any significant Easter leave from medical school, I have been stuck in London during my birthday and an alternative celebration deemed necessary. A tradition was about to be born Since my home here in London is not spacious enough to host wild parties and my dislike of noisy clubs is legendary, I decided to host a birthday meal at a carefully chosen restaurant inviting my two best friends: Daichi and Panos. Last year my choice was the "George Inn", London's only surviving galleried coaching inn. The "George" is believed to date as back as 1307 and its restaurant is not only famous for its filling dishes but also for the expensive tapestries hanging from the walls of the atmospheric dining room. I greatly enjoyed the meal there and would highly recommend the "George" to anyone who wants to experience the environment of a classic English inn. This year, the venue of my birthday celebrations was something entirely different. After reading lots of reviews and recommendations I decided to host the event at "Lemonia". "Lemonia" is a hugely popular restaurant, believed by many to be "the best Greek restaurant in London". It is located at posh Primrose Hill and is distinguished for its large variety of dishes, wonderfully decorated surroundings and fine traditional cooking. This time, Daichi brought with him his (Panasonic) digital camera mobile phone and provided the snapshots for the event. For the record Daichi had dolmades, pork souvlaki with rice, fruit salad and pineapple juice. Panos had tzatziki, saganaki, afelia with fries, fruit salad, raki and Cypriot beer and I had avgolemono soup, kleftiko with fries, mango ice cream and Cypriot beer too. Overall, I think the food was very good and carefully prepared. Furthermore, the inner garden where we had our lunch was very pleasant and the environment was enhanced by the fact that the day was sunny and hot (reminding me of Greece). I would definitely recommend "Lemonia" to anyone who would like to experience Greek food and will definitely visit that restaurant again. Last but definitely not least, I cannot emphasise enough that it was my two friends who made the above event unforgettable for me by honouring me with their presence and friendship. Friends like Daichi and Panos are rare and I consider myself very fortunate to be celebrating my birthday with them. |
