Mary Minor Evans presented Steubenville Mayor Domenick Mucci Jr. with the first signed copy of her recently published book, "A Twentieth Century lady, " on Tuesday.

The book centers around Evans' mother, Katharine Sinclair Minor, who was a lifelong resident of Steubenville. Evans said she began writing the book with the intention of giving it to her mother on her 90th birthday. Her mother died last July on her 90th birthday.

"I wrote the book because my mother was such a part of the history of Steubenville. She was born, married and died in Steubenville. I guess you could say this city was her stomping ground," said Evans. "I feel strongly that this city still has a lot of life left in it."

Mucci expressed his delight with receiving the first signed copy of the book, which will be preserved in Steubenville's archives. "I am very excited for the city to be honored with this book. Katharine Sinclair Minor meant a lot to the city. She was involved in many civic organizations throughout the city."

The mayor went on to say how wonderful it was that Evans, who resides in Minnesota, wrote the book about the city and its history. "It is not everyday that someone writes a book about our community. I encourage everyone to read it."

The book, published by Tri-State Printing of Steubenville, will be sold exclusively at Bishop of Books located at 145 N. Fifth St. in Steubenville.

"I thought it was important for the money to stay in the city,: said Evans.

With only 500 copies published, the paperback book which costs $18.95, is expected to sell out quickly.

Anyone interested in having their copy of "A Twentieth Century lady" signed by Evans can do so today from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2-4 p.m. at the mayor's office lacated at 300 Market St.
