HOST / NARRATOR: In lesson 3, you will learn about blends, diagraphs and r controlled. You will also find out that the letter q is always followed by the letter u, and that the letter u in qu does not act as a vowel. A word or syllable that has qu must have another vowel in it. We call blend two or more consonants that come together in a word, each keeping its own sound. A diagraph is two consonants together that make just one sound. Sometimes, the sound of a vowel changes a little if that vowel comes before an r. In this case, we say that the vowel is controlled by r, or r controlled. |
