What am I looking for?
We
see them on TV, in books, maybe you've even faked a photo yourself. When
people think of ghost pictures, they often think of a picture similar to the
fake photo shown here.
So what do you get when you actually take a ghost photo? There are some common images that you might not even know were paranormal. Go back through your photo albums and I bet you can find one of these.
Orbs:
The most common picture thought to be from paranormal sources is what is called an orb. They are spherical balls of light captured on MANY ghost photographs. They look similar to what you get if you take a picture in the rain or on a dusty road, so you have to be careful when calling something an orb. There are many theories as to what these really are. Some say they are ghosts, some say they are not ghosts but the energy from a being that was once living. The orb is thought to be the energy being transferred from a source (i.e. powerlines, heat energy, batteries, people, etc) to the spirit so they can manifest. This may not even be a conscious thing the spirit is doing, just a natural way they get their energy. This would explain why the orbs are round balls. According to the laws of Physics energy being transferring like that would assume is natural shape of a sphere. This theory can also be tied into the EMF readings we get during spirit activity. Here is what orbs look like:
Mists:
Many times you take a picture and see a strange mist, sometimes called ecto.. This is often said to be the energy trying to take form. Be careful to never smoke when taking photos, and if it is really cold, your breath can look like a mist as well.
Vortex:
Less common then the other two, a vortex often appears as a large, supercharged orb moving very fast. It is a streak of light that appears for no apparent reason in a photograph. They move in one direction or swirl about in the picture. Be sure your camera strap is not in the picture because that can give the appearance of a vortex.
Apparitions:
These are the ones that are most often faked. An apparition is the image of entire body or a part of the body that appears in pictures. Often seen in windows. I always find these hard to believe unless I captured them myself because they are so often faked. These are very rare!
