About CTGS and our Mission Statement:
I believe that our mission statement is directly related to how and why I began this group to begin with. Let me start there.
It was not one experience that led me to starting Central Texas Ghost Search but a culmination of things throughout my life. At an early age unexplainable things would happen in my parents’ house; lights coming on when they weren’t plugged in, strange noises when I was home alone…and it always seemed to happen when I was home by myself. I would tell them about it but they dismissed these things as an over-active imagination and too many scary movies. As I got older, more things began to happen but now my parents and their friends were witnessing them too: plates flying out cabinets, a tap on the shoulder when there was no one behind you, mattresses shaking while you were trying to sleep, loud groaning sounds that seemed to come from nowhere, yet everywhere, and the list goes on. Finally, when there was no longer a logical explanation, my parents became believers. I’m not a spiteful person, but an, “I told you so” was definitely in order here. So I guess this is where my curiosity began. Who was this ‘thing’ or ‘person’ in their house? What did they want?
I began reading up on the subject of ghosts and was determined to travel the country in search of ghosts, but as with many interests, school and life got in the way and I forgot about the subject for many years. Then, about 5 years ago, another series of events rekindled the fascination with the paranormal. My grandmother passed away 7 years ago only a few days before my son was born. It would have been her first great-grand-child. She wanted so much to stay around to see him but she was fighting cancer and didn’t know if she would make it long enough.. She told me in my ear one night that even though she wouldn’t be on this earth, she would be watching over us. A few days later she died. Then ~5 years ago, I was visited by my grandmother in a dream. She woke me up and kept pointing to a picture on the computer screen. She wouldn’t speak, she just kept pointing. It seemed so real it was eerie. The next morning, I woke up and immediately went to the computer screen. The desktop picture that had been there for months was a photograph of my brother, his son, and my son. But then for the fist time, I noticed a small circular light in the picture. Still dazed and wondering if maybe that had been a ghost that woke me up, I started searching the internet for things about ghosts and photographs. That light looked just like an orb. Was that really an orb? Was it the energy from a spirit? Why was my grandmother pointing at that picture? I was filled with questions. A few days later, Halloween 2001,my son was posing for a picture in my parent’s front yard and sure enough, there was a beautiful, streaking orb. (This one is on the website) It seemed like every picture I took from that point on had some sort of abnormality in it. When I’d ask others about it, they told me I was crazy and paranoid.
And so it began. I bought a digital camera and hit every cemetery in a 50 mile radius in search of proof. I wanted to know more about what happened after death. Was is possible that my grandmother has stayed around to watch over us? Why did my parent’s house have so much activity? Why was I always getting anomalies in all of my pictures now? There were too many questions for me to leave it to someone else who probably didn’t believe me anyway. I had to find out for myself.
So… our MISSION: I started my group through MAJDA in 2001. Since then, our group has expanded to include some really interesting people with all sorts of backgrounds. I think each of us got into it for our own personal reasons, but as a group we have the common goal of searching for evidence that ghosts do actually exist. We have investigated many graveyards, hotels, museums, houses, and yes, even my parent’s home. We are not experts in the field as I don’t believe such a person exists. We all learn together through our ideas and our experiences. We are not out for the credit or the fame, and definitely not for the fortune. We are just ordinary people who live ordinary lives who are seeking to prove that some things are just not ordinary. We believe that there are many things around us in this world that we can neither see nor understand. If we can find objective, measurable data that can not be explained by physical ordinary means, then I believe we have touched the paranormal realm.
Some of our goals at CTGS include: remain objective in finding that measurable data, rule out the possibility of ordinary causes, do not jump to conclusions, and be careful in reporting information to those who seek our help. We do not use psychics or mediums and we do not ‘communicate’ with or expel spirits. Our research and documentation is based on photography, both digital and 35 mm, audio recordings (EVP), IR video, temperature readings, as well as electromagnetic field changes (EMF detectors). With advances in technology coming at an extraordinary pace, who is to say that we won’t eventually have a device that can prove, 100%, that ghosts do exist. Until then, our group will continue our quest to collect data that is beyond the normal so that we can further understand the paranormal.
