if you want to work in tourism or travel

As soon as you work in tourism you will be confronted with foreigners and the ability to offer another language will be a serious advantage.

There are many jobs related to languages in Britain's
hotels, restaurants, holiday camps, leisure centres, pubs, wine bars, motorway services, take-away restaurants and clubs.
Britain is one of the world's leading tourist destinations and is big business - 55 billion every year - and it's growing all the time. Tourism has accunted for 1 in 6 jobs on all new created jobs in the last 10 years. Especially in London there are many visitors who would appreciated to be welcomed in their own language. Over 200 museums, 5000 pubs and 18000 taxis welcome them everyday in London. Did you know that
over 300 languages were spoken in that British city alone?

People working in the
Underground, train and bus services but also on the Eurostar or the Ferries to Calais are also often confronted to people who can't speak English. You also have to speak French, German or Spanish if you want to work on airlines and it can make the difference for a taxi-driver as well!

Of course, you absolutely need to speak at least one foreign language when you wish to work in a
tourist information centre and it is also very useful if you want to work in a travel agency.
