Dear Parents and Guardians,
I am delighted to share with you the most recent information regarding the new Cycle II School Performance Ratings for Central School from the Department of Education. These ratings are based on MCAS English language arts (ELA) and mathematics results for 2001 and 2002. Student performance data for two years under review are combined. Separate ratings are given for ELA and mathematics. Improvement is rated by comparing performance in 2001 and 2002 with a school's or district's performance during 1999 and 2000, the baseline years for Cycle II.
These ratings are used to identifY instances of low performance and schools with exemplary improvement. The performance rating process is the first stage of a multi- tiered process of school and district accountability. Ratings are used to determine whether adequate yearly progress had been made.

Special recognition must be given to all of our Central School teachers and staff for their strong commitment and dedication to our children's learning and achievement.
We thank all of our parents and guardians for your continued support, guidance and assistance with your children at home.
Sincerely, .
