Central Minnesota Volkssports Club Presents
an AVA Special Program:

Celebrate America's Gardens
The purpose of the Celebrate America's Gardens:  Public Flower Gardens and Flower Festivals AVA Special Program is to enable walkers to get a closer look at flower gardens as a part of their walking adventures by actually experiencing the pathway designs and other features of gardens created for the enjoyment of community members.  Walk routes that include flower festival gardens and displays will enable walkers to augment their knowledge of the array of flowers that grow in America and develop an appreciation for the characteristics of flowers native to specific regions or those cultivated to decorate public spaces to enhance the beauty of natural settings.
Celebrate America's Gardens:
Public Flower Gardens and Flower Festivals
January 1, 2009 and continues until December 31, 2011.
Cost of book:  $10.00

If a part of a sanctioned event route actually utilizes the pathways of a named flower garden open to the public, it counts toward this AVA Special Program:  (Passing by the outside walls of the garden on the route with only the option of entering does not count.)  Landscaping enhancements to buildings or parks do not count.  Private gardens open to the public only on specific dates can count if the regular walk event is also scheduled on those same days.  For seasonal and year round events, the gardens must be open to the public on all applicable days to count.  Arboretums, Plantations, Botanical Gardens, and Parks containing named gardens may also be considered.

Routes that include temporary display gardens set up for the occasion of a public flower festival will count only during the actual days of the festival.
Gardens may be sustained by user fees, community-based support groups, governmental units, or corporations.  Gardens sustained through private donations or foundation funding can count if they are open to the public.

Please Note: In spite of the Germanic origins of the volksmarching tradition, wandering around in and sampling the bouquet of the liquid products of a Bier Garten will NOT count as credit toward becoming a "Master Gardener" for the Flower Gardens Special Program! However, program participants should feel free to celebrate (in moderation, naturally) their walking accomplishments and the attainment of any of the incentive levels in any Bier Garten of their choice.
