I mainly remember the type of store it was. Real small town. Not your Sam Goody or Hastings for sure.

I remember, too. It seems like there are no "owned" stores anymore. No book stores, no record stores, Everything is a chain. I miss that. My parents bought their 1st color TV on Suffolk Ave, but I don't remember the name of the store (I was young)But I do remember their calling to see how we liked it, Circuit City doesn't do that!

From: WALTER AHREM 1973
To: BETTY BINKLEY 1977
betty,
was it post tv

From: PEGGY MAHONEY 1967
To: BETTY BINKLEY 1977
Pardon me for interfering--but it was probably Post TV--I was just talking about the "old" Suffolk Avenue with a friend on Sunday--and that store was mentioned!! Along with Carvel, Green Lantern, the Community Ambulance building and what evr else was there--we couldn't remember them all! I agree on the individual owner thing though--sad in a way!!!

To: GEORGE RYAN 1972
No Sorry I don't remember it but I remember a Deli at the end of my block on Pineville and Suffolk. My brothers got into a fight there and we weren't allowed in it anymore.

Wow I remember the Carvel too. It had all the tables with the metal chairs in pastel colors. I haven't been to a carvel where you can sit and eat your ice cream in a long time.

There were two stores, really. First he had the C.I Mens Shop next to Cheryl Ann. Later he moved into the old B&B as the Man's Place. Remember the other store on Carleton? I remember they had a big slot car track. I think it was where Mid Island used to be before they moved to Hauppage.

I used to go uptown as we Lowell girls used to say, after American Bandstand on Saturdays with Barbara Stietzel and Kathy DiBetta and buy whatever was the hottest son out. That was usually after stopping in at Woolworths for some white lipstick and blue eyeshadow, right Barbara!

I broke one of the glass doors in Suffolk Variety when I was about 9 or 10. I was admiring a toy car my father had just bought for me and ran right into the door and put a huge crack in it with my knee! And let's not forget National Shoes!!!

Fortunately they were only $2.99. Yes, that was quite some time ago. And how about the Shoe Repair Shop just north of Walsh's Funeral Home?
