Who Are We?

"The blossom cannot tell what becomes of its odor, and no man can tell what becomes of his influence..." ~Anonymous~
We're a not-for-profit multi-genre organization for published and unpublished writers. Our members are from Indiana, Illinois, Tennessee, Montana and sometimes Florida, especially in the winter months.
We've been meeting since 1976. Sometimes the meeting site has been in private homes, libraries, churches, and a coffee shop. We currently meet at Southport Library located at 2630 Stop 11 Road on the south side of Indianapolis. The library is a few blocks east of the intersection of Madison Avenue and Stop 11 Road.
We welcome and encourage nonmembers to attend our meetings. We're a friendly informal group of people, and we guarantee that you will be comfortable on your first visit and will want to return and consider membership.
Each year, we ask our members to give us ideas of what programs they would find beneficial in the New Year. We elect a Director and Co-director each year that leads us through our meetings and guide our footsteps during the year. Sometimes a member will be in charge of the meeting and other times will find an outsider sharing their expertise. This format gives us a diversified schedule while generating enthusiasm and interest. We have open readings, or possibly roundtable discussions, but we are sure you won't be bored.
Critique groups are formed as a means of additional sharing and hands-on writing. Outside activities are planned such as attending plays, lectures, retreats, and visiting libraries. In past years, we offered a one-day workshop with dynamite speakers, plenty of handouts and a book signing. Our new directors are planning a fall workshop once again in 2009.
IIn addition to all of the above, great friendships are nurtured generating the feeling of a family and not of an organization. We keep growing stronger and better--and as with most things, we are getting better with age!We have an informative monthly publication, The Communiqu, which is e-mailWe have an informative monthly publication, The Communiqu, which is mailed to all members. In 2002, we created a web page offering another venue placing you in touch with people who share the same dreams and who strive to put words on paper.
We are an established group of writers with a mission to continue to serve the writing community. Visit our site often for new information. We're going to be working hard to make this the site you keep returning to.
Oh, yes, and keep writing! We, here at CIWA, wish you continued success with all of your writing.
