Divine Encounter

Oh, Lord I have loved thee
ever since I met Thee!
Thou art so beautiful to me!
Oh! Thou beauty,
ever ancient, ever new,
timeless and eternal!
Thy beauty melts my heart!
Thy truth moves me to tears!
Whom shall I have in heaven but Thee
and on earth
there is nothing I desire
above Thee!
Who can behold Thee
and not be overwhelmed
by Thy great glory,
my Lord and my God!

God of New Beginnings

Oh God of new beginnings,
who created earth and heaven,
God of the new birth,
another year is dawning
upon our pilgrim way,
a new year of promise
like a rainbow in the sky,
like a trek across a wilderness,
a pillar of cloud by day
and a blazing fire by night!
Oh let us put our hand in thine!
Oh lead us to that promised land,
that promised land where all is peace
and strife and warfare at last shall cease!

Three Gorges

Three gorges,
Twelve peaks,
region of mystery and enchantment,
fairytale landscapes -
houses, bridges, temples nestling
among rugged, craggy mountaintops.
deep valleys and rushing rivers
swirling waters and brooding depths,
soft dreamy mists and rain
like falling tears of happiness,
nature's poem
in water and stone,
written for the soul

Early Summer

Rosy sunset,
Hot, humid evening,
Quiet peaceful night
Under the deep,
deep shadows
of the trees.
Early summer,
I sit alone
Reading,
Thinking,
Dreaming,
Content.

Butterflies

Transformed from
crawling caterpillars
like flying flowers
flitting among the
blossoms,
sailing across the green
blessing the world
with their beauty,
proclaiming the mystery
of creation.

That Rare Friend

There are some who see us
through envy’s eyes
rejoicing in our misfortune
hoping for our ruin.
And many who see us
as ordinary,
a living statistic.
"Oh, him?
he’s just another guy."
And that rare friend
who finds us special
overlooks our faults
appreciates the good in us
and likes us anyway.
