The Thoughts of
Samuel F. Pugh

An Epitaph

Our days still come
in single file.
inviting fulfillment
accepting whatever we offer
They bow out
change form
and become memories

Memories,
some fresh, some old
blend into each day
Helping us think, plan, resolve
as we await the new days
that come in single file

All the while
we are creating
a biography,
an obituary,
an epitaph.

Sand

The years go through
The hour glass
Of time
Day by day,
Month by month
In silent, long parade,
They take a bit
Of every life
With every dropping grain,
The days are full
Of broken things
To mend –
To heal –
To help –
A silent, long parade.
I must give a lift
To every life
With every dropping grain.
