Estella Reed Blevins

Essies Abide Retirement Living is a collection of sixteen fictional tales of Essies, or senior citizens, created with exaggeration and humor, typify graying Americans as a subculture. Submitting to a quieter life after vaunted independence, Essies portray situations when dwelling in a community with many independent cottages and duplexes encircling an apartment complex. Written to convince readers that there is fun in life after 65, as baby boomers turn into Essies.

My new novel, Black Rising, has been published and is now available online. It is a novel of high fantasy that includes colorful characters, fantastic events and extraordinary dragons. The back cover blurb reads as follows:

On the world of Namorganda, in the city of Avendis, Yadin Forsythia becomes King after the assassination of his father. As if this tragedy isn't bad enough, his wife goes into premature labor. A self-proclaimed wizard, Merik Ladien, offers to save her and the child for a price. King Yadin has no choice but to accept the proposal.

Little does he know that Merik plans to use him to force an ancient prophecy into fulfillment. The achievement of his goal promises to grant him unlimited power. And he will stop at nothing to make his dream come true.

The prophecies foretell of the Black Rising and the ominous Dark Age that follows, a time of war between men and dragons. A legendary hero, the Jharis, may be the world's only hope of bringing peace. This champion will bear a powerful weapon, known as the Verax, a sword forged by the Creator Himself. This holy blade can appear only after the Black Rising has begun.

And that's exactly what Merik Ladien is counting on.

Page turning fantasy with a dramatic flair. I loved it!

My second novel, Snow Signs, has been published by CCB Publishing in British Columbia. It is a fictional paranormal mystery thriller set in Brown County, as my first novel, Borderland, was.

Snow Signs is unique in that it features a deaf character. I was a teacher and administrator at the Indiana School for the Deaf for thirty years, before retiring in 2001. Many of my Deaf friends encouraged me to include deaf people in my books as I had written several short stories and essays using deaf characters and themes while employed at the School. This is a first offering at fulfilling that request.

Many people have inquired as to when I would complete my second novel because they loved the first one so much. I am excited to have Snow Signs ready now and am anxious to start book signings in and around Indiana.

Both books are available through Amazon.com and Red Carpet Publishing. Snow Signs can also be purchased through CCB Publishing

I have written several articles for national and state newsletters on the subject of parenting and Autism. I also served on a federal writing project at the Indiana School for the Deaf and wrote several childrens books. I had one Christmas story in the Indianapolis Star. I have written horror and paranormal-themed short stories and submitted them to magazines and contests.

Deborah Adams

I have gone from writing to acting in community theater in the  Indianapolis area.  My request is that writers think about writing plays for older actors to star in.  Romance is not dead after 20 or 30, and older detectives have proven popular thanks to Agatha Christie and "Murder She Wrote". Comedies can abound with older characters, and musicals would be richer with a seasoned voice.  Think about it.
