BY-LAWS
By-Law 1: Each chapter of CANHS shall be assessed dues payable to the Association through the Advisory Board. The amount will be determined by the Advisory Board with the approval of CAS in accordance with the Constitution of CANHS and its By-laws.
By-Law 2: Official funds will be used to pay the expenses of the association.
By-Law 3: Ratification of the Constitution and Subsequent Amendments:
The initial Constitution of CANHS shall be approved by the CAS Board prior to the first convention of the Association. At this convention and subsequent conventions, amendments may be approved in accordance with Article IX.
By-Law 4: Membership:
Local chapters of the CANHS National Honor Society are to be affiliated members of the Division of Student Activities of the National Honor Society of the National Association of Secondary School Principal's (Reston, VA). As such, member chapters are subject to the rules and regulations of the NASSP NAtional Honor Society, including the expectations for student selection, discipline and dismissal. (Article IX Section 5 and Article X Section 6 of the national constitution). Neither CANHS nor any of its members shall take any action or make any ruling in contradiction to these rules and regulations. CANHS holds no authority to determine if a local chapter is meeting the expectations of the NASSP NHS. The operations of a local chapter are subject to the controls in place by the local school system and NASSP. The only conrols CANHS holds over its members are the requirements expressly stated in the Constitution and its By0laws, including the requirements that a local chapter be affiliated with NASSP, pay membership dues as expected and be a chapter in a member school of CAS.
