thoughts on Freedom -12/9/03

"Before the battle everybody has to take a bath." "But, I don't want my freedom!" -Whose Line Is It Anyway?

I just thought I'd keep today's thought short and simple. I really only had one point to make about freedom.

Freedom is a great thing. It is people who misuse is that make it seem negative. We do something other people don't like, and we tell them we have the freedom to do whatever we want.

Freedom is only true freedom when it does not interfere with the individual freedom of others. When it does, it is no longer freedom. And when that happens, we no longer care about actual freedom. We only care about ourselves.

That's not freedom. That's selfishness. If you really care about freedom, try to see it from the view of everyone you come in contact with, and make sure you are in no way obstructing from them the freedoms that, within legality, you yourself would want.
