Fausto Centurion B.A. Dip. Educ. Cert. Ent .(N.I.D.A)

(Director, Choreographer, Principal dancer.)

Fausto was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, and from a very early age was introduced to dance, studying ballet and jazz. He displayed a deep appreciation of the traditional music of the River Plate, particularly Tango, and as a consequence, began studying classical guitar at the age of seven, performing in various groups, despite his young age. Throughout this time he also performed in various dance ensembles, both in Australia and Latin America.

In 1988 Fausto travelled to Uruguay and Buenos Aires where he began to study and research TANGO interviewing and obtaining instruction from the River Plate’s leading Tango dancers. Returning to Australia, Fausto became part of the then miniscule TANGO scene performing and developing his knowledge of the dance.

In 1993,shortly after receiving his Bachelor of Arts & Diploma in Education, Fausto founded CHE TANGO. The dance company was an instant success, breathing new life into the performance of TANGO in Australia, due to their youth, creative choreographies, lavish costumes and a profoundly felt transmission of the essence of TANGO, that led to Fausto receiving an award of recognition for his services to TANGO by the Gardelian Association.

During his residency in Australia, Fausto has continued studying dance with such reknowned masters as Anita Ardell in Jazz an Tony Leightonen in Ballet .He has travelled to the birthplace of tango many times both to work and to further explore the art of TANGO.

For the past ten years Fausto has been teaching TANGO throughout Sydney and various other cities having instructed hundreds of students including many of today’s teachers and performers. His expertise in teaching as well as a profound knowledge, and feeling for TANGO have made him a sought after instructor of the art form

In 2003 the Department of Schools Education, in recognition of his vast experience in the Entertainment industry, chose Fausto to teach their Entertainment Curriculum Framework, for which he is currently studying at the prestigious National Institute of Dramatic Arts (N.I.D.A.).

Today Fausto is Director, Choreographer and Principal dancer of Sydney’s foremost TANGO performance troupe and continues to set benchmarks in the performance of the dance form.
